What's Good on European and African TV v. Walking the Dead

Haha... man that season was a mess. What a complete fuckup

Putting it mildly. The final season of Dexter was a Dadaesque tragicomedy, demonstrating what happens when you throw the 15 year old writers of the third season of Lost into a room and tell them to write a season of Dexter, and somehow wrap it all up in a bow at the end. In a lumberjack shirt. I can't even believe that got onto television. =D

But Scotchie, trust me that Homeland is worth the effort for that last season. I know the third one was a fucking abomination, but now that ginger cunt's gone everything's gone back to the way it should've been in the first place. Total reboot. Do it. :)

I'll get back on it... You're right, it was that ginger coackroache that fucked me off, first two seasons were stellar. Brilliant. Then it just became nonsense and I lost interest very quickly when things went all pffft...

The only program that never falters to me is The Wire. . It's a masterpiece, I'm Watching it for the fourth time. That is The beSt program ever made.. bar none. MASTER CLASS..

It speaks volume

That was fo' JOE!!!

Dear Scotchie, I love you more and more. Me too. I've also watched it about 4 times and could talk about it till the fucking cows come home.

Perhaps you already know all this shit. Maybe others don't. But I'm just a gangsta, I s'pose. %)

I tried to get into it, I watched the first episode 3 times other a few years. Weird. I like most things considered to be real/raw/making a point/action/gangs/police etc.

Snot boogie, see I remember it I really tried! He always cheated or won at poker or whatever and the nickname stuck and then end of convo the guy is seen dead. Then credits? I really should force myself to watch 2 or 3.

You're definitely gangsta, OG, Felix %) I'm going to look at those links :! D

The thought of me being or doing anything remotely gangsta (short of "liberating" carabiners from Tescos water bottles now and again ;)) is laughable. :D But yeah, if you haven't got involved in the mountains of discussion all over the place on The Wire yet, you fucking should. You may well have missed out on half of what's actually going on, and maybe not noticed all the tiny little links from season to season, and character to character, and the themes throughout the entire series. Millions of people are still talking about it, and those geeks don't miss a thing.

Also, I'm sure you know it's recently been re-released in widescreen remastered HD? Which I have yet to acquire and watch, and which will be absolutely immense and exquisite, and me and Kate are gonna go for another run through on very shortly.

LOTS of people have this experience, including myself initially. Seriously. It's why it was never popular when it was aired. Power through the first 5 or 6 episodes from scratch, get to know the characters, and fucking PAY ATTENTION. It's not CSI or NCIS where things get wrapped up in an hour. Things don't get wrapped up at all. You're watching life. :)

I have learned so much about politics, big business, the war on drugs, the police, the media, the US as a whole, and fucking life in general from this show. No exaggeration. Please have another go at it. :)

Starrted the walking dead yesterday. Two episodes in. It's not bad, slightly more comical than I was expecting.

And egg is the lead character! WTF.

IMdb ratings per episode.

Spoiler alert: a lot of people weren't very happy with the S4 finale. Because nowadays, everyone is a professional screenwriter who knows how things should end. There's another season in the pipeline, and I'm sure it'll pick up from there again. Don't let that outlier put you off. :)

Interesting

Oh yeah lemme know what you think of Whiplash when you get a chance to check it out :)

Agreed. Have had this argument with somebody (who shall remain nameless) whose taste I always admired immensely but they just had a blind spot when it came to The Wire. Whilst I take said person's points about it not being quite as groundbreaking and revelatoty to folk who have spent longtime looking into the reality of the WoD, the fact remains that The Wire is to this day the only TV series (with the possible exception of Traffik but that was but a mini-series and rather limited in scope) I know of that has even attempted to "go deep" on the subject and retain any relevance to actually real reality. Masterpiece <3

The Walking Dead is another masterpiece (imo and all that) albeit of a very different form. Second half of the fifth season started this weekend which reminds me I've not gotten around to watching the first half of the fifth season yet. I really don't like "split seasons" :|

Fifth season of Game of Thrones also started this weekend I do believe. Still not sure whether I actually properly like it or whether it's just lots of good bits of something that will never come together to make an actually properly good whole though.

Never heard of Traffik before. 8( Why not? I dunno. But that's another thing on the watchlist now. Thanks.

I don't understand what I'm missing about TWD. We watched the first couple of seasons and became bored by the routine and stupidity of the characters. But people whose opinion I trust (like you) keep saying what you say here. Should we have a restart and give it another go?

Showing on 12th April 2015. Not sure what you mean by "started"?

GOT is amazing. It's eye candy and thrillling and funny, which is sometimes all you need. I love it.

GOT is brilliant. imo the walking dead is a dull sloppy mess too much of the time.. characters i find myself not giving a shit about, boring dialogue, the latest episode was so fucking dull. overrated bollocks. i still watch it though

Got a nice 2.5GB version of it last night, and it'll be the next film we watch, for sure. :)

Nice one

Old C4 series. Properly good and well worth a watch. There's also a Hollywood fillum version with Michael Douglas but never seen it so no idea if it's up to owt.

It's not to all tastes, for sure. It definitely helps if you're already steeped in zombie lore but I completely disagree with your categorisation of it as "routine and stupid [of charaectrisation]". Quite the opposite. Genunely groundbreaking and transgressive all wrapped up in ultraviolence and sweaty, claustrophobia in the great outdoors. As with all things, each to their own, but Walking Dead is pure class all the way <3

Aye. It is all of that but none of it yet fits together to be owt more than lots of "good bits" stuck together with... precious little. I enjoy it but still don't understand why so many folks go absolutely gaga for it. Aside from the tits, arses and occasional flashes of minge anyway. As a male person who has always loved fantasy I'm pretty damn sure it's mostly those tbh. Dragons are kewl and that but dragons with semi-clad female flesh scores doubleplus adamantium with +7 elvish runes innit ;)

And apologies for confusion, there's a S05E00 doing the rounds at the moment which I presume is a preview rather than an actual episode. I've not watched it but have seen previous US shows feature a "S0XE00" which seemed for all the world to be an actual episode when collated as part of an entire season. No idea what the case is in this case but I suspect Google would be your friend. I'll wait for the season to finish and watch 'em all in a day or two as usual I suspect.

Ach well. If we all loved the same things in exactly the same way for exactly the same reasons, the world would be a very dull place.

I'm not usually into Fantasy, but I love Game of Thrones.

I am usually into Zombies, but I don't love The Walking Dead.

Funny old world. :)

'Sokay. Not a dealbreaker or owt. I still loves me Felix <3

(you ever tried walking dead on mxe though? i watched the first two seasons back to back during an epic mxe binge and was so immersed it was unreal)

And speaking of funny old worlds, just started watching episode four of Drunk History - first drunken history up is The Krays and is already tickling me in all the most ticklish of places =D

Yet another thing added to the "Watch" list of bookmarks. So little time. 8(

Never been much cop at watching anything except for cat videos and Cat Island on MXE; there's such an infinity of other things to do when you're on MXE that it's the last thing we ever think about. I'm storing all these things up for later. And they're all appreciated. :)

I know i'm way behind everyone else but i am just discovering 'Game of Thrones'. My neighbour has lent me the box-set of the first, second & third series. I'm nearing the end of series one and i'm hooked. Loving the character called The Imp and the beautiful Callisie especially.

Anyone see/like time trumpet? it's a bit old now but still funny. One of those ones that may have been missed. Here's an episode: http://youtu.be/Y6nKYDzMcr4 you don't need to watch them in order.

It's set in the future looking back at past and our future. Armando Iannucci stuff is great. Love the thick of it, alan partridge, The Armando Iannucci Shows etc.

Some other comedy shows I like... uk then us (not included any cartoons)

15 Storeys High
Black Books
Garth Marenghi's Darkplace
Brass Eye
Jam
Spaced
Bottom
Peep Show
Father Ted
Red Dwarf
Office UK (and US actually)

Curb your enthusiasm <- love this, the writing the characters, the fact its HBO so nothing is off limits pretty much. A lot of it is improv but theres a planed theme which always comes together in a weird/funny/interesting way by end of each episode. I wish I could think up a single one of his episodes plots, I think they are that good. I need to watch Seinfeld.
Always sunny in Philadelphia <-inspired but takes a couple to get into and danny devotee arrives series 2 where it arguably improves. Probs fav Comedy atm.
Arrested Development <- just getting into, tamer than the above two, fast paced, but good story and characters and obviously humour.

Other than cartoon comedy there isn't a load of US comedy I like really. Maybe most of it is shite!
