What was Jesus trying to do?

I don't see anything about Jesus not wanting to be worshiped in the Gospels, Acts or Paul's letters. And as far as "religion" goes Paul wrote a lot of instructions for the early church.

I guess the impression I get from the Gospels is that Jesus served the people of Earth with humility. On almost every occasion where He heals, He asks the healed not to tell others. I always supposed this was because He did not want the glory. He wanted it given to His father, the Creator. I imagine He knew how badly things end up when humans worship or glorify other humans (kings, politicians, demagogues) and did not want to be the one glorified b/c it would detract from the message that God, the Creator wished for humanity to be at peace with itself.

It also seems that throughout the published Gospels the Pharisees and Saducees try repeatedly to get Jesus to admit that he wanted to be worshipped as God/a deity. If anything, Jesus' responses to these queries also provide evidence of an attitude of humility. The answers he gives deflect the glory from himself and put it back onto His Heavenly Father. At the same time, Jesus' answers show the Pharisees their own hypocritical behaviors and how they were poisoning God's plan for the world and humanity's proper understanding of that plan.

In Acts, Jesus lays the foundation for the early church but I don't see it as instructions to build a religion that worships him so much as an outline to rebuild humanity through adherence to 10 Commandments and their revisions, the beattitudes. I would like to think those principles make sense to any person regardless of their faith or lack of.

The passages I read said "Help the poor and you'll get into heaven". It was a behavioral prescription.

If a politician on TV was telling me what to do, I would ask myself, "Why?" Why does he care? What is this person trying to do, gain or become from changing my behaviour? Again, the only justification I found (in my very short session) was Heaven: Jesus was telling us what to do because he wants us to get into Heaven. I was skeptical of this. So I got curious of whether you can separate the Heavenly afterlife from the behavioural prescriptions, and if so, what Jesus' real motivations were.

There is no heavenly afterlife. It's here and now. Always has been.

This is the big lie of Christianity. Wait until you die to find out if you were right or not. You don't have to die, except to your old ways, which fall away naturally as you disengage what feeds them.

Easier said than done though.

A person who walks with God consciousness in waking life has no concept of an "afterlife" as most people do.

To them, it's all the same.

Death for them is like taking off a pair of sandals that have worn out. It doesn't affect what they already see.

Doesn't it always come back to the same question when speaking of Jesus, what in the bible and other writings found is legit? What really happened two thousand years ago? Will we ever really know, or will it always be a matter of faith?

Some people believe in the bible word for word. Some people see it as fake, and others believe some of it may be true. I'm in the last group, but still I have no way to find out what parts may or may not be true.

My spiritual believes are like a frankenstein of religions and philosophies.

I for one think their might have been a Jesus, logic says something happen back then. What was he trying to do?
Teach us we're more then mere flesh and bones. So take the high and hard road.
Also teach us about death and after life, but I believe this message got totally screwed up.
Was it about ascension, reincarnation or something else who knows.

Although I was raised as a southern baptist, I embrace no religion.

There comes a point in any spiritual journey where the seeking stops. The practice ends. The goal reached.

This happened to me about 20 years ago.

I used to digest libraries full of books. One day, it just suddenly stopped. I came to the realization that I already was where I wanted to go. I became God aware. A steady state in the eye of the storm.

The result of having this kind of perception is life altering.

Direct perception as opposed to belief.

Personal revelation as opposed to written scripture.

The second coming of Christ has nothing to do with Jesus coming through the clouds. It's the inner Christ waking up and taking over the driver's seat.

Religion has nothing to do with it. It's a natural maturation process, the likes of which most people will never experience in this lifetime.

Religion has no place with me, because I tell you what I see as opposed to what I believe. As direct perception is beyond mind, there is nowhere to store belief anymore.

As I only identify with the absolute, there are no deities for me.

Nobody, even Jesus, can explain to you what God actually "is".

You must go to that place and see for yourself.

Jesus was merely pointing in that direction. Religion muddied the waters soon after and the path was lost.

The "word of God" can never be written down, you see. It has to be spoken by a LIVING master. Otherwise corruption sets in. A book cannot correct your course when you leave the path.

All the Abrahamic religions are cults of the dead for this very reason.

They attempt to keep these teachings going after the death of their master and it simply cannot be done. Christianity is a prime example of what happens when well meaning clerks try to fill the master's shoes.

The whole system falls out of orbit like a dying satellite because what kept it up there is no longer available.

The only real way to the kingdom, is to become a master yourself.

A master of the self.

Just like Jesus.

First off, Jesus never wanted a religion to grow up around his teachings. He never wanted to be worshipped either. Such thoughts never occur to a true master.

Jesus was a man, who had reached spiritual maturity. The same fate awaits all of you.

Jesus is an example of a fully developed human being. A mortal man who bloomed into his human potential while others watched.

They, misunderstood the process and wrote things from that primative perspective.

The centerpiece of Jesus' teachings is compassion. Only this key will open the gate to the kingdom, which even now is all around you.

Compassion is the ability to expand your awareness outward and away from your "self". Selfish people cannot project very far, and as a result are very self centered.

The idea is to expand compassion until it reaches all of creation, making it your body. Your kingdom.

If you can feel all things as a part of youself, the desire to harm any of it leaves you .

Now you understand the golden rule.

The very nature of compassion means that you don't think of yourself but others. The personal "I" has been pushed into the background and your life becomes one of service to humanity rather than personal gain.

Christianity left the road when they declared Jesus a "son of god" and made a deity out of him for worship. They greatly misunderstood what that was supposed to mean.

A son of God means that person has merged his individuality with the godhead and came back again into individuality.

Enlightenment is the modern word for it.

Spirituality is the last thing to develope in a human. We spend much time in perfection of the body and then the mind. But spirituality is the hardest to mature. It can't be forced but it can be cultured.

You literally leave this world and fly away on your new angel wings.

Once you catch a glimpse of something other than this reality, you will be consumed to pry that door open all the way.

Jesus knew how because he had made the journey. The only way you can truly follow Jesus is to become what Jesus was.

A fully developed human being.

On a planet full of children, such a person offers guidence as long as their physical shell will last here. When they die, they merge back into the sea of consciousness and leave their individuality at the door.

"Over there", everybody is a Christ.

Were definitely on the same page Parmahansa Yogananda wrote a book pretty much confirming everything you have stated in this thread its called The Second Coming of Christ: The Resurrection of the Christ Within You he said that the second coming of christ is not a physical coming of Jesus but the resurgance of christ consciousness in the world through his teachings. Yogananda said that through meditation we can find the kingdom of heaven within just as Jesus taught. For example a quote from psalms where it says be still and no God essentially saying still the waters of the mind in meditation and know that I am God. When Jesus said that I and the father are one he was saying as that Jesus and God had merged there was no longer I and Thou there was no longer the knower and the known God had manifested fully in Jesus. When you fill the self with spirit you lose your ego self.

Remember what Jesus said about selling all that you own and follow him?

What that means in plain english is you must let go of all the beliefs you have attached to yourself in life. Because to enter the door to the kingdom, you must be naked of belief. Belief belongs to the individual "I".

Religion itself often pulls you in the opposite direction of where you need to go.

These "behavioural prescriptions" are designed to make you spiritually aerodynamic in this sense. If you're an older person, this means you have to peel away decades of belief. You have to unlearn everything you think you know about God.

There is only one belief that will help you do this.

That anything is possible.

The only motivation a master like Jesus has is compassion for his younger brothers and sisters.
