What new (or old) game do you love?

Just wanted to pop in here and say I'm really psyched about the new Starcraft 2 version coming out in a few weeks. Looks like it's gonna make failing my exams worth it :D

yes yes yes

Starcraft 2 is king, awesome competitive online scene and brilliant RTS play. Am pro level platinum league zerg/protoss player ;)

Probably the greatest of all strategy games however is Civilization IV - incredible depth and learning curve, truly absorbing game that is more addictive than crack. As in once a session starts, mental excuses keep being made for 'just one more turn (hit)'

I think it must have been a bit shit, all the serious, or semi-serious gamers on here seem to rate San Andreas, even Vice City, but not heard much in praise of GTA4.

Did any of you buy it (and actually play it)? Was it shit, or in some way not as good as the others.

How do we know GTA5 won't be similar?

Were you all as excited by the imminent release of GTA4 as you are about GTA5?

*Raises hand*

I paid over 100 quid just to own GTA4 a day early.

I felt let down by the environment at first but then realized there was more depth to it than I imagined.
San Andreas had a nicer feel to it and technically had more stuff.

But judging by the pics GTA5 looks to be the true successor to SA.

There was something so compelling about San Andreas, a game had never grabbed me like that, other than online FPS Quake 3....

The whole feel of San Andreas, it all felt so right, so real.

Not played it meself though. Installed it on me lappy but didn't seem to work properly. Probably just me being to dozy to work it out though :o

I think it's a great game and I just started playing it again from the beginning recently and am still discovering things I never found before.
There is a great bank robbery that you take part in and the cut scenes for it is really good.
Can't wait for GTA5 though, its the only game I am bothered about buying this year.
GTA IV also has the bonus of having a couple of short stand up routines by Ricky Gervais held in the comedy club.

If/when I get me lappy fixed I'll no doubt try to get it up and running again, Max. Pretty sure me new pooter won't really be up to the job but me lappy was just about capable of running most games (except some of the uberwizzy ones). I <3 GTA so have to give it a go sometime. The bits I've seen looked great.

In other GTA news, recently got me copy of San Andreas back (for PS2) and am now craving some GTA action. Might have to fire up the ol' Playstation...

San Andreas was undoubtedly the best GTA game of them all. GTA IV had a great story and soundtrack but something about it wasn't right, the sense of unwavering freedom found in SA was not so strong.

I can't see why people get excited about cut scenes, any cut-scenes.

You know it makes sense Shambles. A bit of Grand Theft Auto always good for the soul.

Could do with breaking me BL habit a bit. Maybe some PS2 replacement therapy would work. Also, would you believe I'm possibly the only person here who never got around to finishing it? Have had it for years (on and off - not always had a PS2 to play it on 8)) and just never did finish it. Same thing with Vice City (although I find the controls for that a tad clunky after playing SA). This is very poor form indeed :o

EDIT: Talking of guest appearances: Shaun Ryder in SA =D

I never finished san andreas either, i got as far as some sort of go kart race through some strrets to save someone?I think? I think it was quite near the end.

But I'd spent hours and hours and days and days and weeks just dicking about, making money, getting new outfits, getting buff, just doing shit, it was so good for that.

Yup. I was always very easily sidetracked too. Had a bit of a thing for causing massive explosions by arranging large numbers of cars in such a way as to start a chain reaction. Usually got nobbled in either the explosion (generally cos some rival gang member started shooting at me and hit one of the cars too often whilst I was still arranging 'em) or in the ensuing chase (was always shite at evading the cops). Also just generally exploring obscure places. With all this SA talk if I disappear offline shortly you'll know what I'm doing :D

theres some brilliant cut scenes in Far cry 3, some of the best ive ever seen in a game. full on movie like

GTA4 was brilliant, but why they took all the stuff out they had in san andreas i aint got a clue. Saints row 2/3 is better, so much stuff to do

Old games? i liked elastics, where two kids put knicker elastic round their ankles and a 3rd jumps around on and in them to rhymes. Long rope group skipping was good too. Never understood cats cradles :)

Am sure I used to play cat's cradle with some of the girls at my school. Don't really recall exactly what you're supposed to do though. Girls seemed to have a totally different set of games to boys. Mostly involving string (or similar) and/or skipping. And lots of handstands which always got an appreciative audience :D

I chose to speak in screenshots because I ... er... was in an artistic mood...(?)

Ahhhhh you just legit gave me nostalgia chills :D I wanna play Broken Sword now, and FF7 is probably my favourite game. Sadly Cool Boarders ain't aged well, almost unplayable now :( Legit SFX tho.

GTA IV was pretty average IMO, never really got past the second island, just didn't feel as alive as its predecessors. San Andreas multiplayer is also worth a mention, that was immense. Was getting quite into Halo whatever is the most recent one last night, playing against my housemate's little bro and one of our other housemates in another room. Don't really rate FPSs much but that was seriously fun, tho mainly for murking your own team and cackling hysterically. Gran Turismo was ace when it came out, still remember being blown away by it back in...1997, was it? Might get on GT 5 later today.

omg Dizzy <3

Can't believe I didn't mention the first two Monkey Islands. Or maybe I did. Anyway, the first two Monkey Islands. Insult sword fighting was the most hilarious fucking thing. Also Myst. And Hugo's House of Horrors. Said it before but the sound effect when the spider bites Penelope in the third game is the best sound effect ever and now I need to go find it for my phone.
