What is your food staple?

Custard apple seems more fitting. They are extremely sweet.

Thats unfortunate about the pests. I know that planting hot pepper plants near vegetables helps to ward off insects but I'm not too sure about trees. Do you have a compost pile in your yard? That also helps immensely to "distract" bugs and rodents from things that are growing.

Yes, we have several compost piles/pits/surface layers. I'm not sure, it's a phenomenon of the 90s. When I was a child all the atis were healthy. I've never looked into it, but I'm just letting the tree be until a good mix of other trees comes up around it, to see how it will respond to company.

Mostly they are sprayed with chemicals these days.

My staples (all full-grain) in order of commonality (assuming I'm in Canada and all are available):
Rye, Wheat, Lentils, Oats, Chickpeas, olives (and olive oil), and other minor whole-grain ingredients like Millet and Barley. Wine and tea too, if that counts.

I eat lots of Potato as well in various forms.

My preferred fat-base is butter, plain and simple.

However, my body seems to not want:
Rice, Corn, and Soy (except miso and soy sauce).

Notice, again, the Mediterranean-ness. I am very convinced that the mediterranean diet is the healthiest.

Meat-wise I ideally prefer absolutely-fresh salmon (ONLY in Tokyo) which I'd then chop up and eat raw with soy-sauce for breakfast :). Mmmm. Otherwise, I guess it's chicken for me... and, increasingly nowadays, mutton. Ideally though, I'd much rather have self-hunted venison as staple.

staple:

Browned ground beef with Green Pep, and Onion

Mix that with rice,
or on top of noodles with spices,
or throw in some chilly powder when you reheat and make a burrito
and you can always add mushrooms and spinach, cuz they cook in an instant.

The beef, pep, onion mixtuer is so versatile and lasts so long, so many possibilities. Its the gerber multitool of cooking.

quinoa, brown rice, lentils, chickpeas, miso, zucchini, parsnips, spinach, scallions, cilantro, garlic, ginger, coffee

i put vinegar in everything i don't put citrus in: white, rice, red wine, apple cider, balsamic, spiced/seasoned(drop a few fresh garlic cloves, a few whole peppercorns, maybe some coriander seeds, mustard seeds, pinch of salt, into a bottle of vinegar. let sit~a week. awesome on anything)

i also make a point of having pizza at least once a week. old habits die hard. and it's still one of the worlds most perfect foods!

^^my boyfriend soaks swiss chard and kale stems in apple cider vinegar then puts it in soup its so delicious!!

If you're talking about tomatoes-- ours are usually sour-- something to do with the soil. The tomatoes in Italy are really large and juicy and sweet! I was shocked when I bit into one. The ones here need sugar when you're making them into an Italian tomato sauce. The native ones are as small as playing marbles. Very cute.

Kinda surprised no one has posted in this for two years! You guys eat some delicious food!

My staples are brown Basmati rice, barley, rolled oats (trying to transition to steel cut), black beans, beans other than black beans, bananas, apples, raisins, prunes, spinach, mushrooms, unsweetened hemp milk (switching over to unsweetened almond 'cause of cost), ... That's about it aside from extra virgin olive oil, nutritional yeast, popcorn (non-microwavable kind), and stuff like that.

Well, the topic question and the OP are a bit different.

My food staples -- the foods I can, and usually do, eat every day and not get tired of -- are eggs (with veggies/msuhrooms), oatmeal (with fruit), mixed nuts with raisins, and celery + peanut butter + raisins.

Maaaaybe add a turkey breast sandwich (with veggies / avocado) to that.

All of those are cheating, if you notice, because nothing is by itself. That's because there's no one thing I can eat without getting tired of.

Things I consume probably 5/7 days of the week:

Oats, tuna, chicken, eggs, honey, cashews or almonds and white tea

My other staples:

Fruit: avocado & grapefruit
Vegetables: broccoli, asparagus, spinach, sweet & regular potato
Flesh: salmon & cow
Grains: rice & quinoa

a. rice/chicken
b. peanut butter/bread

two main staples, each a protein+some kinda carb. peanut butter is a lifesaver for me. when i need food and nourishment, no time to cook, it hits the spot.
