What is your food staple?

I've always loved white rice with anything. I make a lot of veggie curries- lots of channa masala and the like. Chickpeas are my thing. And chard. Pretty much any greens. Mustard, collards, swiss chard, beet greens, dandelion…

I have been incorporating brown and wild rice in to my diet to balance out the white rice. Seriously, I eat white rice for breakfast with whatever veggie curry I've made that's in the fridge. I really love white rice. It's the perfect food. Except for the carb thing I guess.

Other than that, I can't do without plain yogurt. And bulgar wheat and quinoa. I couldn't live without bulgar wheat. And sushi. I'm broke as a joke right now but my friends are taking me out for sushi on Thursday and I plan on eating an entire fish or two. Bincho ftw.

Nice. Maybe you could try unpolished brown or red rice, or the really wild rice (i love eating that, its so good and you really have to chew!) I'm sure you know where to get the good stuff (saw some in the Salcedo market but it was grossly overpriced...my tita used to sell some for 10% of the price!)

Honestly, I'm not really big on fibrous rice unless there's a lot of sauce involved. :D I try to make up for that by eating a lot of veggies. I have some pink rice coming in though, it's partially milled red rice.

Yea those ones are overpriced. :p

Homemade whole grain pizza loaded with a variety of veggies, lots of apples, whey protein, Udo's oil, and dessicated argentinian bovine liver. (I also take Nature's Way whole food based vitamins).

I never get sick eating this diet and I always feel great.

I eat a lot of rice and beans. I just throw in whatever fresh veggies I have my in fridge and some hot peppers. Its quick easy and delicious!

LoveAlways: I thought tomatoes don't grow well in Hawaii? Sounds like a tasty diet and awesome line of work though :)

I have heard a lot of things like that about broccoli, tomatoes, eggplant, etc. So far we've had great success with everything we've put into the ground except for zucchini-but I still have faith we can make that work too :)

As far as I know the only things that really can't grow out here are things that need to frost over for a season like berries, most apples, peaches. Which sucks because I really love those fruits <3

^Well my yard is pretty small so we only have a lemon tree, mountain apple tree, cherry tomatoes, bananas (but they just got cut down finally!) and a small herb garden. But you can check out the gallery on our website (www.manaoaina.com) for pictures of some of our clients gardens. :)

I also like to steal fruit from my neigbors and father-in-law that lives down the street. My neighbors have the sugar apples which I believe are native where you live-right? And they have tangerines which I love. My father-in-law though has two HUGE avocado and mango trees which are the best late summer!

^ Yummy.....The gardens looks goood :) The eggplant is beautiful.....
We just moved onto an acre of land and I can't wait to get planting!! :)
Our house is one of 4 on 5 acres (each with their own acre and a shared) There are apple trees-plum,pear,cherry and walnut trees that are community trees-Lots of healthy stuff in a few months:)

Ahh I can't WAIT to have a yard so i can have a garden!!! that will be the best. i know i could grow indoors but im just not that ambitious i guess....

My food staples are light cottage cheese, peanut butter, bananas, yogurt, frozen peaches, frozen veggies, brown rice, salad, wheat bagels and cream cheese. i eat those things pretty much every day. my guilty pleasure foods are pizza and ice cream so i usually have those once a week if i worked out every day and deserved it.

Protein powder/tang/instant coffee/shitload of supplements= most of my ridiculously hurried breakfasts

Otherwise, I eat mostly fruit, rice, and beans. Oats and granola make a big showing as well. Most days a tasty craft beer, I need all available calories.

It is the end of the month though, so my diet currently consists of mostly, well...nothing. :(

lol me too! my refrigerator is empty save some dressings and jalapeno pepper lol

^haha, yeah, gotta love that famine diet! I've read it keeps you young, something about reduced oxidation/free radical damage via a decrease in metabolic processes.

No, http://www.philippines.hvu.nl/fruit1.htm Atis-the first one. I had to look it up to find out what it was, and I didn't get why its called sugar apple except that its super sweet.

Macopa looks like our mountain apple.

Ah yes, I was aware of the term "custard apple". It's wonderful stuff, especially when cold!

Although we got some cherimoya seeds from Chile and grew them by the beach, and I have to admit that they're more flavorful than our local atis. They have a tartness to them-- atis is sometimes too sweet in a cloying way.

:)

Recently all the atis trees here are suffering from pest attacks. Before you can get the fruit they will turn black and small. The tree in our garden is like that, unfortunately.

Custard apple seems more fitting. They are extremely sweet.

Thats unfortunate about the pests. I know that planting hot pepper plants near vegetables helps to ward off insects but I'm not too sure about trees. Do you have a compost pile in your yard? That also helps immensely to "distract" bugs and rodents from things that are growing.
