What is the point of life?

I like that final scene from Men In Black when the camera scopes out from the earth and the solar system and the universe etc and it turns out we are just a marble in an aliens game of marbles.

The point being, it seems we are so insignificant in whatever the "real" goal of the universe is, that it would be impossible for us to know.

As long as you are doing whatever feels right, you can't go far wrong.

"The universe we observe has precisely the properties we should expect if there is, at bottom, no design, no purpose, no evil and no good, nothing but blind, pitiless indifference." – Richard Dawkins

can't be said any better.
the "purpose of life" is to replicate/reproduce thus continuing your own kind.

i found this rather interesting:
" ...an awareness of continuity is necessary for sanity and contentment . In practice this means a comprehension of past coupled with a reasonable expectation of the self continuing into the future, in some form or another. This is the root psychology of human purpose. Basically all of human endeavor is wrapped up within the inveterate quest for immortality; after all, if your just going to die then what's the point of anything?

But even if everlasting life in a literal, physical sense is impossible it can nonetheless be achieved in a vicarious but very significant way. This practical immortality can take multiple forms from genetically similar offspring to more vague concepts like heroic altruism, fame, and glory. Indeed the most successful here have themselves interjected into the very fabric of culture, an estimable means of perpetuating legend to be sure. The secondary benefit to achieving these coveted status' is that it enhances every other element of social success; celebrities never have any problems finding money or mates."

Everything you will do in live will be insignifigant, but you must do it.

I think the budha said that. I might have even read it in someones sig around here Im not sure.

make yourself and other people happy as much as possible. what else is there? im athiest, but i think tahts what religion is supposed to be about too. they just have a threat that says they have to. as an athiest i just do it because it is right.

Could life be for living? No, thats too easy...Why ask why?

Its a dream, then you go to sleep.

What is the point of life? to "practice dying"

"That the whole idea of understanding life would be the ability to control the passage of time"

"Live the life you love. Love the life you live"

"The Universes whole intent is to just quite not let you know!"

"Education is an admirable thing, but it is well to remember from time to time that nothing that is worth knowing can be taught. — Oscar Wilde"

I rekon we have to find our own purpose in life.

To quote Gandolf? from Lord of the Rings:

'We are given a period of time - it's up to us how we spend it... '

am i wrong?

You could do a LOT worse that that.. more power to ya :)

I do not know why you even need a point, nor what kind of crazy random thoughts lead you to believe that an authoritative answer (which is presumably what you are after: someone or something which tells you what you ought to be doing) even exists, but:

There is no point to life. The closest thing to a real 'point to life' given thus far is the contention that it is to fulfil the biological imperative and breed. If it were true, it would be the only point to life. It, however, misunderstands evolution and is incorrect. Since you are alive, though, you may as well have fun, in whichever way that you derive it.

You can either stick around or go kill yourself, but it doesnt really matter.
I'd say it does matter, for the person doing it at least.

the point of life is to discover the point of life.

ebola

so once you find it does life become pointless? would this in effect change the point of life, sending you on a whole new journey? or would pointlessness remain?
