What great band have you just discovered?

Phish I just dicovered what I missed and it sucks. being 19 right now is just the wrong time to be a music fan
 
Im not silly I missed Nirvana,Phish,blind melon,sublime,real alice in chains,stone temple pilots. all by about 5 years. 5 measilly years

Don't worry. All these old bands reform a few years down the line. I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't get to see most, if not all, of those bands eventually.

Agreed, although I do understand his frustration that he'll never see a lot of his favourite bands live.

But then that's true whenever you were born. When I was his age, I was annoyed that I'd missed seeing the Smiths, Jesus and Marychain, Clash, Sex Pistols, Velvets, Stone Roses, etc etc live. But if I'd seen them, I'd be pissed that I never saw the Beatles.

But seriously, now is by far the best time to be a music fan, ever. Go back 15 or 20 years, so much good music was out of print. Or unavailable in your town. Or you'd never heard of it, and had no way of hearing about it. Since then we've had a massive number of re-issues of good old stuff on CD. We've got the net which makes it a gazillion times easier to find out about stuff, and to get your hands on it (legally or otherwise).

José González is great. Cycling Trivialities, the last track on his latest album (I think) is a really lovely song.

He also takes the award for having the most un-Swedish name in the world, yet actually being Swedish. It really is a crazy world we live in!
 
This is at drew. Dude, if you like phish and are sad you missed them, check out umphrey's mcgee. they are soooo fucking hot right now. I love them almost as much as I love phish, and that is saying a lot! They still tour, go see them, seriously
 
I just discovered the Birthday Massacre -- originally I wrote them off as pretentious goth hard rock in the vein of Orgy circa Vapor Transmission, but after actually listening to them, I have to say that they are indeed pretentious goth hard rock in the vein of Orgy circa Vapor Transmission, but with an added ambient quality and etherealness that is just incredibly awesome. The new album is stunning.
