What great band have you just discovered?

Sanctity

I was pleasantly surprised with this band. North Carolina (which has really been a hotbed for heavy music as of late) thrash/power metal with the occasional breakdown. Solid technical guitar work and drumming.

Recommended if you dig Testament, Shadows Fall, Into Eternity, etc.

Besnard Lakes - The self-proclaimed Dark Horse band of Montreal's supersaturated and inbred music scene, helped produce some other bands albums (I am sure I have mentioned them before on this silly forum . . . ).

I should have listened to you the first time around! I heard these guys on the Chicago NPR show "Sound Opinions" (one everyone should check out, the show that is) and I think they're pretty awesome! :) Apparently they were almost a "band of Chicago's tenacious yet limping music scene"... but they ultimately decided to stay in their home country. :D

Not really a recent discovery, but seeing Blonde Redhead live at Lollapolooza reaffirmed just how much I dig these guys. Do yourself a favor and pick up a copy of 23, their newest release.

I just discovered LOTUS this summer at All Good
and i was just blown away how amazing and talented these guys are. and i just want to see more and listen to more of them.

if u have not heard of them u should look them up

peace, love, and chicken grease

Kyuss are my most recent discovery, I love their sound, and I can't find another band to even compare to them. Digging it.

Make that Amor's +1! Better late than never, I suppose . . .

Raising the Fawn - Canadianish; 2005's Maginot Line sounds much like Pablo Honey era Radiohead with more grandeur!

Caribou - One man band from Manitoba with an impressive resume of musical and academic credentials - he, and his parents hold Ph.D's in mathematics. His most recent album, Andorra explores late 60's synth-pop-psychedelia, with magnificent results.

Listen to these albums if you like teh music.

Holy shit I can't stop listening to Myth Takes

Their first one didn't really do it for me, but this second record has been getting nonstop play for a few weeks in my world.

I thought Caribou was also the artist formerly known as Manitoba? I enjoy Manitoba, and I'm starting to get into Caribou.

Oh, and I'm really enjoying the Besnard Lakes now as well (can't remember if I downloaded the album because of your recommendation, or because I saw it on Metacritic, but it's good stuff).
