^^ Awesome!!! Good luck darling!
My history with birth control is a long and convoluted one
When I was 15 I went on the contraceptive pill (combined) since I'd become sexually active. I can't even remember which one it was, perhaps Levlen?? I was on it for a few years and eventually I couldn't stand it anymore because it made me completely insane. I'd never heard of Pre-Menstrual Dysphoric Disorder before but I went to the doctor and all of my symptoms pointed to a textbook case of PMDD. I was advised to go off the pill and stick with condoms, and I was put on Prozac to treat my PMDD.
Fast forward to about 5 years later (about 6 years ago) and I got a new boyfriend and we decided I'd go back on the pill for heightened-intimacy's sake. I only lasted about 6 months because, again, it made me completely insane, my PMDD had returned, entirely concurrently with my usage of the contraceptive pill. So I went off the pill and went back on Prozac to treat the PMDD symptoms, and we actually discontinued ANY birth control whatsoever, just using the rhythm/cycle and pull-out methods.
This lasted for 2 whole years, but I eventually got pregnant, obviously completely unbeknownst to me and unfortunately I'd been drinking heavily and using a myriad of recreational drugs for the entire 5 weeks of the pregnancy before I found out. So I had to have it terminated. After that I became aware of the Nuva-ring, and my doctor said that there'd been less negative emotional/psychological side-effects reported with the usage of the Nuva-ring so I decided to try it.
The Nuva-ring was good for about 6-8 months, but again, PMDD eventually came back and I had to discontinue using the Nuva-ring and go back on anti-depressants. We used condoms for about a year after that.
After much consultation with my doctor (who has been pretty amazing through all of this, I must say), she recommended that I try Yasmin and informed me that there's been a lot of research to say that Yasmin specifically has helped in a lot of cases of PMDD. I went home and researched it myself (
extensively, as you can imagine I was highly dubious of ANY hormonal birth control at this point!!). And eventually I came to the decision that I'd give it a try.....
For the first 6-8 weeks of being on Yasmin I was completely suicidal. I've never been more suicidal in my life, and that is saying something. I even lodged an official adverse reaction report with the company to notify them of my side-effects. But for some reason or another I withstood it, and I made it through. Now I've been on Yasmin for 8 months and I have NO symptoms of PMDD, which is positively
amazing considering that I'm on a combined contraceptive pill, the very thing which I believed caused me to develop PMDD in the first place.
For anyone who can't be arsed to read all of that:
I've had a LOT of problems with hormonal birth control, but now I'm on Yasmin and doing great and very happy
