What do you think of Psytrance (/GOA) ?

Cannabis = High-BPM psytrance

Serotonergic psychedelics = Downtempo / psychill / dubstep

In my opinion.

No way man, if you listen to the right psychedelic shaman trance like GOA TRANCE then you will love it. It's healing music seriously. It makes you want to lend your attention and either bob my head, close eyes, take a walk, or dance like no one's watchin'!

Goa trance is made for LSD.

You feel like you're tripping just by listening to it, tune in and enjoy the trance! It's best on either LSD or sativa cannabis.

ok - I'll have to admit that I'm from the "bees & flowers" faction :o
If that's ok 2u I'd recommend Atma - The Secrets of Meditation.
Very nice album.

Not if you take higher doses, imho.

Higher doses? Of LSD?

I find whenever I listen to Goa Trance on LSD it's almost like it compeltely makes sense, it isn't "annoying" at all. The goa trance music really pulls you into a shamanic trance because it stimulates alpha waves in your brain and stuff. It's great.

Psytrance is kinda boring, some of it is good....but it lacks the "changing as it repeats" which goa trance does so well.

This is good newer psytrance with goa influences:

i also feel that goa trance goes really well with psychedelics regardless of the dose.
imho fullon/progressive psytrance are a bit lacking in the 'psychedelic' department lately and go better with lower doses while darkpsy is too dark/noisy to be really enjoyable on psychs.

Psy\Goa Trance is so much more than just dancing... But dancing is very nice :) Unfortunately I haven't found any good trance since 2000 :(

have you looked into newschool goa trance?

GOA/Psytrance is amazing on higher dose's.. it pulls you so deep into the twisting nether of bliss. Darkpsy especially becomes extremely mechanical and intricate. To me loosing myself on high dose's deep into the trance is one of the highest states of 'pure' bliss and imagination i can reach.

On dose's of 500ug+ infront of a huge sound system playing this type of music, you dont even need to dance.. the music will literally pull your body and limbs in sync with the bpm, while your mind travels through impossible landscapes of amazing fantasy.

Haha see darkpsy and psy aren't very psychedelic. I find they would probably be better on a stimulant cause they are more "shallow".

Goa trance sounds great no matter what. Sober, high on cannabis, high on stimulant, tripping on LSD.

That's why goa trance is the best! A comfortable state of chaos.

Awesome photo of a party:

No, I gave up after trying to find some good trance awhile ago, plus I'm on a psyche break right now. Although, the one posted here by terrafractyl was amazing sober so I can't wait to listen to that one! If anyone has other suggestions like that post them!

goatrance is alright, but i honestly prefer other styles of psy. There's psychill, psydub, psychill, psybient. It has more of a flow and less of an intense bass, fast tempo, in your face type style. if you know what i mean.

Some good recommended artists.

(if you dont know already) Shpongle, Infected Mushroom

Hmmm. This is hard to explain, because I'm not anti-drugs by any means. But does anyone else find a whole genre based on a class of drugs painfully pretentious? LOL. I don't know why.

That being said, I kinda do like a lot of Psytrance out there, especially some of that Terrafractyl stuff posted before. I don't tend to admit it to anyone because I find anything smelling of 'tree-hugging hippy crap' a little embarrassing LOL. Sorry.

This guy knows what he's talking about.

Yea but none of those styles are a substitute for shamanic trance.

Goa Trance is for dancing, trancing out to, even at your home. It's active meditation music.

Psychill and other down tempo doesn't put you in a state of mind like goa trance does.

Once you "get" goa trance, you'll never get tired of listening to it. LSD helps....but honestly goa trance is great sober too.

Maybe hes not trying to substitute more chilled out stuff with "shamanic trance", maybe he just likes the music?

Always thought it was dull, repetitive, mindless crap, to be honest... Then I went to a BL meet and proceeded to nom a gram of top-notch MDMA crystal (not all at once :D), 500ug of acid and roughly my own bodyweight in ketamine. Kinda "got it" then and spent several hours dancing about (had never danced before in my life really) and also playing with my magical, mystical, multi-coloured, multidimensional ball of wool. There is a very slight possibility that I may have hallucinated the magic wool... kept me entertained for hours though :D

I've been bangin Eat Static alot lately too, one of my favorites: Trantaloid!

Eat Static are one of the only psy-trance(ish) bands I could listen to either sober or wasted. I don't mind a bit of psy with the right kinda chems in me in the right setting but it still mostly bores me rigid sober - find it kinda irritating really. But with the right setting and dose(s) it goes down just fine with me :)

One of the bands I do like I don't think has been mentioned yet - The Zap! Another one of Raja Ram's side projects. I like quite a lot of the TipWorld stuff but generally the more chilled/ambienty stuff unless I'm all hopped up on goofballs and stuff. The Zap! are more psytrancey like 1200 Mics but have some more chilled stuff in amongst it too. Perky example - Proton Pusher - more chilled example - 360 Volts - and purely cos the vid looks pretty good tripping - I Can See Rainbows

I'd still generally prefer to listen to acid house, IDM/braindance (how poncey are those for genre names? 8)) or breakcore and stuff when on MDMA and/or tripping but psy does have it's place and can be perfect sometimes.

I actually really used to dig goa trance. For a long time. It was one of the first few electronic music genres that I actually truly enjoyed. I also did a lot of MDMA at the time. Haha. I guess you could say that I didn't so much get tired of it, but it helped me transition over to other styles of electronic music.

I have went through phases of listening to nearly every genre, and now I try to keep an even balance between psychill and other subgenres of trance. A lil idm is good every once in awhile too. I would always recommend to balance out your genres. And never to listen to any one song too much because then it gets worn out and you stop listening to it after awhile. (:

I LOVE all music, and it makes up a good important part of my life. I live and breathe music, and beats come out of every pore, from my head to my feet. I like a good goa trance song every once in awhile, and I agree that psychill will never replace shamanistic trance, although, there are artists like Entheogenic which make the exception), but i was just simply pointing out styles that I've found to be better for the chillout style.

I also wanted to point out that I am a female. Just clearing it up for those who were referring to me as a 'he.' 8)
