What did you want to be when you were in high school?

nothing! absolutely nothing...

Thank God i found my way cuz going through life as a bum not accomplishing anything would've SUCKED!

Also letting my family down would've hurt 2

I wanted to be a computer programmer.
It looks like I'll actually end up being a scientist (well, sort of), which was my occupational aspiration at age 5.

ebola

when i was 7 or 8, i said i wanted to be a chemist. both my cousin and i had it in our heads that we were going to be scientists, this is still a very real possibility. a year or so after that, i had my heart set on becoming a lawyer and up until i got pregnant, it was a dream that was achievable. looking back, i don't think i would cut it, regardless of what numerous teachers have told me. they also said i'd make a great actress...

now i'm not sure what i want to do :\

You took the right path. Computer programming/engineering isn't what it was 10 years ago. Back in the day, we made our own hours, worked for 6 months out of the year, and we were treated like professionals. Now we're nothing but code monkeys and expendable by $3.00/hour Indians.

Optometrist. Didn't get into the program. They interviewed me 3 years in a row. My grades for the 1st and 2nd yr of my BSc were average to poop.
I felt that 10 years out of high school wasn't enough time passed. I may go to my 20th reunion (in 3 years) just for the train wreck curiosity factor.

archeologist/architect/engineer.

i even thought about joining the police at one point. :| thank fuck that didn't happen.

Heh I could be doing an archaeology degree if I mess up my grades. Although that's just a back up and at the same uni so once I'm there it'll be easy to change course.
Is quite interesting though

doctor/lawyer/vet...but mostly doctor.

ever since age 9-10, i wanted to be a neurosurgeon. this actually came from reading stephen king's "the dark half".

now i'm in nursing school, and my local hospital has a pretty spectacular neuro dept.- so, i'll def. be close. i love the blood and guts!

there was a short stint where i was a philosophy major, and then wanted to be proprietor of a restaurant in a large chain.

glad i finally got my head on straight.

p.s. i live in my hometown, and my 10 year reunion is in one month. i'm still debating...

I've always wanted to be a psychologist but when I got to UCLA I realized that there was too much math and science for me to actually enjoy it. I also wanted to be a journalist after dabbling in the high school paper scene.

But...now I don't want to do anything but travel. How can I get paid to do that? Anyone have ideas?

Bearded revolutionary

How to get paid for travel: My aunt's husband is a designer for Nike. He goes all over the world, taking in the various styles as influence, and gets paid well. So I would say, if you're really serious, explore fashion design

Did I go to HS with you (I know I didn't, but I wish I did) <3

You should go. If I still lived in the state where I went to HS, I would.

Future nurse paralegals FTW, may we pull 6 figures, work on our own time and merits, and never have to wipe anyone's ass.

GO TO YOUR REUNIONS!!!!!! even if you hated HS, and most of the people there. i had a blast at both of mine so far, and so did everyone else that went. the only thing you'll lose is a few bucks and a few hours of your time if you don't enjoy it. and if you opt out and then regret not going, you're gonna have to wait another decade for the next to roll around. so gooooooooooo!!!

anyhow, when i was really really little, i wanted to be a cat, and actually thought that i'd be able to turn into one as an adult. then when the harsh reality of life hit me, i wanted to be a vet. but all the negative shit people said about it (how long it takes and how expensive it is) changed my mind. so in highschool, i decided i really wanted to join the army, be an MP, and then be a civilian cop when my time was done. so i joined ROTC in college, but didn't contract after the initial two years, cuz i met my now ex-husband as a freshman, and there went that plan. so since we lived in a small college town and i stupidly thought that marriage = lifetime commitment, i entered nursing school, cuz that would always give me employment opportunity. looking back, i suppose it was a smart decision.

for sure...who needs that doctorate! too much responsibility.

as a bartender/mgr. i have already kissed too mcuh ass, and as a nursing student i have already wiped too many asses.

i wanna be a scrub nurse...just soemthing in the o.r.

mariposa, you go to my reunion as me, and i'll go to yours as you!

Not sure if you're in the US, but being an MP is one of few jobs where women can rise to the ranks of men.

ETA: Poopie, are you sure what you're getting into? I always knew I adored you. <3

Trolling our respective reunions... lol... mine is on the beach, and you look way better in a bikini than I do!

Either of you can take me along as that "This is that guy.... you know... the guy who used to...". I'm easy. =D

i wanted to be a comic book artist. all i did in high school was draw (and truent). i had no talent in it, but preservered.
Did a tertiary course in drawing fundamentals in 97 just to increase my skill. the course was designed to lead into graphic design but that wasn't where i wanted to go at the time.
applied to disney studios twice in sydney and was rejected both times. the second time, they kept all my originals and even my certificate. fuckers.

Right up until I was 14 I wanted to be an olympic athlete (100m) and I was good enough. Then while doing judo I damaged all the tendons in my ankle and I couldn't run competitively anymore.
