^"supremely overrated talentless hack"? I think not.

Shakespeare > Bukowski > ...Stephen King?

sleeping pains, as much as I appreciate your much-desired Allegiance to everything I say, I would also rate Shakespeare as an overrated hack - however, unlike Bukowski, he is NOT talentless. He is overrated.

Grabbed a Jeremy Clarkson book The World According To...in a hurry for a change.

I didn't realise it was simply excerpts from his column (hell, I didn't even realise he was a columnist).

If I was british I might get 50% more of the jokes. :/ Good toilet reading I guess, but I think i'll stick to Top Gear in future.

not to derail the thread but...
I know what you mean, in that a lot of Shakespeare seems pretty basic and mundane to modern readers. however, you gotta remember that those plays/poems were written hundreds of years ago. the influence Shakespeare's had on all English literature afterwards (and all literature in general) is incredible - he defined English and American literature as we know it. the reason he might seem "overrated" is because you're comparing him to stuff that developed out of / because of Shakespeare. I mean, just take a few weeks/months/years to study the English literature and theatre that existed before him - that's the best way way to understand what I mean.

all cliches were once ground-breaking-ly original ;)

I've been reading a load of Sherlock Holmes. Always loved those books and the film coming out renewed my interest (still haven't seen it though)

those are all great except... Bukowski - WTF is Bukowski doing there? A supremely overrated talentless hack...what is the deal with Bukowski?

I shat blood
right on my hand I wiped
it off with a syringe in one hand and
a dead cat and booze and I dropped
a bomb of feces on this world cuz
I'm the next wave. my face is melting,
i am a slave to
trends and the road bends
and im left in the dirt like a hobo

Bukowski's fiction ...does not have the same effect on me as much as some of his prose ;)
I love drunk Bukowski rambling.
What can I say...he moves me :)

One of em I love...
But hey, if you guys think he sucks, or he's talentless, or whatever, doesn't affect me and I don't feel the need to defend him (too lazy..lol.) We like what we like <3

I haven't read much fiction (outside of school) lately, but I've been reading "Einstein's Dream: The Search For a Unified Theory of the Universe," by Dr. Barry Parker. Gribbins's "The Case of the Missing Neutrinos" is pretty phenomenal as well. I've been reading a good deal of Freud as well as of late.

Went through 3/4 of Carlton Putman's Race and Reason. It's somewhat self-contradictory when it comes to the ideea of equality of oportunity and a few arguments are forced. But all in all Putman makes a good point.

Also reading some guy's doctorate thesis about the academic movement of 17'th century Spain for school.

birthing?!... i like it how edward bit the pillow, sounds like something i'd do if i were a vampire and having sex. i wonder why bella didn't turn into a vampire right there, i mean i don't know if vampireism is spread through bodily fluids or not. it would sound possible.
