what bands WOULD you like to see? any era - dead or alive

Can you stand Lydons singing these days tho atm? His singing on the pistols album is pure anger and everything else he's ever done sounded pretty weak in comparison.
 
I don't think his voice really works on Pistols material anymore. The 1997 reunion had me almost crying because of that.

For the PiL stuff it's pretty well-suited though, I think.

I'd say that I wish I'd seen the original Killing Joke lineup at the height of their powers, but then I realise that in a few weeks I am going to see the original killing Joke lineup at the height of their powers. Aside from the fact that Jaz can only growl these days of course, but it just works.

They would definately have been shite in 1960. They only got there in August and the drummer had only joined the day before.

Even at the end of the Hamburg period those recordings are pretty shit, but I think the ambience of seeing young Lennon might have been worth it.

Like I said I haven't seen him live since the Pistols in '97 although I have recordings from the PIL tour last year, the pistols was always going to be a parody I can;t see anyway it couldn't have been, I saw them at Finsbury park along with Skunk Anansie and Iggy Pop and had a good day but the Pistols were over by the end of 1977 along with Punk really so in 1997 I don't think it was bad bit of entertainment.

Lydon has an unusual singing style and whilst I can't think of a better band than the Pistols they didn't actually record that much music, I have all the demo's and bootlegs but in they lasted less than 12 months as the original line up with Sid (John ! in reality) joining as window dressing and because Glen didn't fit the image Mclaren wanted, but it was the tension between Matlock and Lydon and the Steve that really created the Pistols sound IMO I can't say I dislike a single track recorded whilst Lydon was in the band.

I think First Edition and Metal Box as well as the never officially released Commercial Zone were Lydon's finest hours, that stuff just really floats my boat and I never tire of listening to it. I think he really showed that he really didn't give a fuck what people wanted from him or expected and made his own way which he has continued to do, you've only only got to listen to his first single after leaving the pistols to hear saying just that:-

Some good picks in here,

gotta agree with PIL, The V.U, JAMC, Hendrix etc..

I've been lucky in that I've seen alot of the bands I love, having spent my entire life doing nothing but taking drugs and going to gigs/playing music. There is still so many that will never happen tho..

Fugazi - I would of loved to of seen them during repeater/steady diet era but tbh I would give anything to see em anytime.

Morphine - I would of loved to of been at their last gig...(the singer died of a heartattack on stage)

The Birthday Party - Nick Cave generally going fuckin mental to brutal punky noise, I love the bad seeds and all the offshoot bands grinderman, dirty three etc but they where outstanding..


I would of loved to off been in New York when the No Wave scene kicked off late 70's/early 80's to see Lydia Lunch, Sonic Youth, Contortions, Swans etc..and to of seen the Hip Hop scene kick off
 
Would have loved to see pearl jam , my mrs has , and has some u-tube shit , of them playing in St louis singing given to fly , and EDDIE gets some bird up on stage who's doin sign language. ( for someone/something )

It really is quite a special thing to see (and I'm a tuff cunt).

I do, however, have hard evidence Steve Jones is the biggest cunt in the world.

haha weird I was just talking to my bandmate at practice about Jones being a cunt, dunno why we where talking about it but how queer ;)

The Smiths !!!! Dunno how I missed that one before, I saw Morrisey a few years ago and it was OK. Im sure I've seen Marr playing in another band at some point but the original line up would be something special.

Spacemen 3 back in the day, I'd give ANYTHING to see them. Spiritualized are a worthy compromise, and way better than Spectrum (sonic boom) is on his own

13th Floor Elevators with their original singer..can't remember his name now but he got locked up in a psyche ward for drug possesion, he was made an example as they where from some US state with even worse drug laws. Poor guy :( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gHK9vj0VE7w

Yeah, as much as over-familiarity has diluted The Smiths for me, it would've been great to see them live.

As for Morrissey solo gigs, whenever I've had the 'pleasure' the highlight has usually been watching the tension between the racist bootboy faction, the fey student types and the ageing date rapists.
