There has been at least one thread about this before (as far as I know), but it was from '02, so in lieu of bumping an incredibly old thread, here's another one.
A lot of people consider movies and MDMA fairly incompatible. Your mind is racing at warp speed, your eyes are vibrating out of your gourd -- how could you possibly focus on a movie? Really, you need a movie without an involved, complex plot. Something that works more as eye candy, maybe even something cute and funny. Perhaps something without any words.
I really, wholeheartedly recommend this film:
Baraka. It's an experimental visual art film that basically attempts to convey the rhythm of life and human societal interaction without any words. It goes to many cultures of the world, from the streets of Tokyo, to the whirling dervishes of Turkey, to the tribes of Africa and Bali. It features only ethnic, ancient, culturally-rich music. And, the best part of all: there are no words. It has some of the most gorgeous and beautiful cinematography you'll ever see. It's almost a documentary in the sense that there are no actors, everything is real. However, it's filmed like a movie, with high quality film cameras, and the scenes are linked thematically. I really can't put it into words very well, it has to be seen to be believed. It's truly epic. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if you had the best roll of your life watching this film.
As for something a bit more lighthearted and comedic, I recommend this:
My Neighbor Totoro. It's a beautifully animated children's anime film directed by Hayao Miyazaki, the director of Spirited Away, among other popular films in a similar style. It's such an adorable movie, with unbelievably cute characters and fantastic scripting, and the plot is easy to follow, without being dull or overly simplistic. You literally cannot stay in a bad mood watching this, even while sober (and of course, if you were rolling, you'd have a grin plastered on your face for the length of the film, guaranteed).
What are your guys' current picks?
