There has been at least one thread about this before (as far as I know), but it was from '02, so in lieu of bumping an incredibly old thread, here's another one.

A lot of people consider movies and MDMA fairly incompatible. Your mind is racing at warp speed, your eyes are vibrating out of your gourd -- how could you possibly focus on a movie? Really, you need a movie without an involved, complex plot. Something that works more as eye candy, maybe even something cute and funny. Perhaps something without any words.

I really, wholeheartedly recommend this film:

Baraka_%28Film%29.jpg

Baraka. It's an experimental visual art film that basically attempts to convey the rhythm of life and human societal interaction without any words. It goes to many cultures of the world, from the streets of Tokyo, to the whirling dervishes of Turkey, to the tribes of Africa and Bali. It features only ethnic, ancient, culturally-rich music. And, the best part of all: there are no words. It has some of the most gorgeous and beautiful cinematography you'll ever see. It's almost a documentary in the sense that there are no actors, everything is real. However, it's filmed like a movie, with high quality film cameras, and the scenes are linked thematically. I really can't put it into words very well, it has to be seen to be believed. It's truly epic. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if you had the best roll of your life watching this film.

As for something a bit more lighthearted and comedic, I recommend this:

My_Neighbor_Totoro_-_Tonari_no_Totoro_%28Movie_Poster%29.jpg

My Neighbor Totoro. It's a beautifully animated children's anime film directed by Hayao Miyazaki, the director of Spirited Away, among other popular films in a similar style. It's such an adorable movie, with unbelievably cute characters and fantastic scripting, and the plot is easy to follow, without being dull or overly simplistic. You literally cannot stay in a bad mood watching this, even while sober (and of course, if you were rolling, you'd have a grin plastered on your face for the length of the film, guaranteed).

What are your guys' current picks?

can't stay focused long enough to watch tv when rolling, but sometimes i can tune in to Def comedy Jam

Planet Earth - Forests in high definition.

EDITED: (to explain why) - I am one with the trees. Lame? Yes.

the only dvd i've watched while rolling was pink floyd's the wall. i don't think any explanation is necessary :P

Crank.... Fast action packed movie guy running around taking different stimulants to keep himself alive. Have to watch it.

Then there is things like Futurama, American Dad, Family Guy, Spunge Bob Square pants. Allways good and a crack up to watch with a group of friends while pinging

Donnie Darko:A very deep and beautiful movie all in itself. But watching while chemically enhanced,it's almost impossible to take your eyes off the screen. If you're able to focus them, that is.

I personally have never tried watching anything while in space. But I could almost visualize Baraka playing. Great preview and photos indelible face

Across the Universe...not that great of a movie (story) but if you like the beatles the music is amazing!!

I still have not seen this yet!

I know, astonishing. I can't wait until it comes out on DVD.

(I was about to say I can't wait until it comes out on video, but then I realized that would sound silly nowadays.)

^lol i just like watching it for the music, i couldnt stay focused on the story...

another good movie to watch is The Wall, or Yellow Submarine, you get to look at all the pretty colors and listen to the music

last movie i saw rolling was teenage mutant ninja turtles, i couldnt understand the story so i had to watch it again sober...when i saw it, it was in the theaters and it was so loud and colorful, i felt like i was there. splinter kept making me laugh, everytime i asked my boyfriend what was going on he said just look at the pretty colors....it was a lot of fun

I can't watch ANYTHING whilst rolling. It just brings me down. But I absolutely love to watch Party Monster while I'm waiting to come up!

I've tried it a few times, but everything you said about MDMA and movies being incompattible, it applies for me, I've tried it with no avail. I've watch a few movies while tripping on psychedelics though, which can be really amazing and is a lot easier to accomplish, or even a magical thing to do when tripping, but not on MDMA, not for me.

I've watched both A beautiful mind and Requiem for a dream on shrooms though, the first one I watched alone in a large house I was home-sitting for some people who were on a holiday, I took a full dose of MAOI's and 10 grams of fresh Copelandia Cyanenscens, that was one sick ass trip, completely into the schizophrenic main chacters head. I've watched both Traffic and Spun on Miprocine and it was very neat too. I'll shut up now, I'm getting far offtopic.

Hah, no worries. I'm sure that would sound perfectly logical and unlame to me during a roll. =D

Trainspotting

I would definitely not like to watch that movie while rolling. I was turned off by the movie when the guy went down into the nasty toilet to go after his suppository. :\

I've never really watched a movie while rolling, but I did watch March of the Penguins while tripping one time and it was extremely powerful. I'm not sure what it would be like while rolling since there are some sad parts of the movie, but it would definitely allow you to feel some serious empathy.

^As far as Penguin movies go, maybe Happy Feet would be a better choice whilst rolling. :D

(Damn, I love that word, "whilst", so old world and sophisticated!)

^^I think it's more of a mood thing in that case. For the epic struggle in nature side of ya, you could go March. For the cute, feel good side, you could go Happy Feet.

I think either would be fun and interesting to watch.

As for my current pick, I think it would have to be "Winged Migration" - The film serenely captures flocks of birds over beautiful landscapes, and it's just a very simple, tranquil and relaxing movie. I highly recommend it.
