did ye make it from scratch, whats your recipe.

its good with some pittas-lettuce-tomato and red onion.

Of course I made from scratch, certainly wouldn't catch me eating it from a tin. I fry some onion, garlic, chillis (1 red and 1 green) and chopped peppers (had red, green & yellow this time), brown off the mince with 2 teaspoons of each of the following, hot chilli powder, chilli flakes, cumin, paprika, corriander seeds and cinnamon. Add a tin of chopped tomato, a few splashes of lee & persins, few drops of tobasco hot sauce, chuck in some kidney beans and some dried oregano & parsley and then chuck all into the slow cookers to bubble away for hours on end. Chuck in some dark choclate at the end and fresh corrainder then chuck some jalapenos on when serving + a dollop of sour cream.

Good recipe. I find that cinnamon augments the beefiness. You want to put in a really tiny amount though, 2tsp sounds like overkill to me.

I not a fan of overelaborately spiced chilli, I just use fresh chillis, garlic, smoked pimenton, and cloves. I like the idea of maybe trying cinnamon instead of cloves though...

my missis reckons you should use cumin and coriander, but i think it too much.

The chocolate at the end too, nice touch Spade :D

i knew you would be cooking it up from scratch.looks pretty much same as mine except i dont bother with the jalapenos.

sometimes i make it with chunks of beef and not mince and serve it with big chunky homenade oven cooked chips ( potato cut into 3 or 4 ).

Mailmonkey, cumin is a must in chilli con carne. It gives it most of the taste IMO, try it! Cloves I wouldn't put in personally. Bogman I put jalapenos in with everything. Pizza, chilli, pasta, sandwhiches. There's nothing that can't be made better with a few of them chucked in. I had the chilli again for lunch today and will finish off tomorrow, also had a Maccy Dees double cheese burger, mini pork pie and chicken noodle cupasoup.

yeah I have tried it with cumin, i *think* my problem with cumin comes from when i used to cook a lot of curries in me early 20's, used to go WAY overboard on the cumin, and has put me off a bit.....cloves I like cos they add depth, and another dimension of heat....might try it with a small amount of cumin next time I make it, in fact, might make one tomorrow......i, like you with jalapenos, put cloves in with a lot of things, stews and casseroles...cloves and nutmeg and mace....

This evening i made a chicken leek and potato soup, simple but very good food.

MMMMMMmmmmm maccy Dee double cheeseburger.

Had a monstrous protion of chilli today for lunch, thought I'd better get it finished before it went off. Was probably enough for about 3 people. :D

did a potato and chickpea curry for tonites dinner.used normal and sweet potato with can of chickpeas-can of tomatos-onions

garlic-ginger-veg stock and 7 or 8 spices.

also cooked up dinner for tomorrow did chicken n chorizo stew.

Been a bit unhealthy this week, pizza twice & maccy dee's twice so just had some weetabix and crispbreads with low fat cheese and cucumber for tea. Had the new chicken fiesta burger from Maccy Dee's today at lunch, not bad at all. Need to cut out the shit and get back to healthy eating though.

Crisp roast chicken thighs with loads of cracked green and black and red peppercorns, and a mushroom, pea and parmesan risotto; with a rocket and lemon salad.

A feast this evening. Homemade onion chutney and poppadoms followed by chicken pakoras, lamb & veg samosas, onion bahjis with chilli, mint and mango dips then chicken jalfrezzi & lamb rogan josh with rice and nan bread. Stuffed.

Sounds amazing mate! I might have a couple drinks then go cook something extravagant! Spade's dinner also sounds amazing! Hell anything with chicken is always amazing, as I often say...Chicken - the only bird that matters ;)

I had a cracking dinner aswell, potatoe mash with cheese and onion done in the oven, cooked pepper strips done with mozarella, basil and tomato's melted/cooked on top, brown rice with peanuts and sausage squares through it, and a fresh bean & courgette salad. Was absolutely delish!

That said just looking in this thread I am now hungry =D

Just had nice hot and spicy beef curry followed my several of my favourite custard tarts. To finish it off I got a big bag of Haribo Tangfastics
