Why are there no fish similar to tuna? Tuna costs a bastard fortune now and I'd rather not assist in extincting 'em either. But there's no other fish that I can think to use as a replacement. Is there a pollock of the tuna world out there somewhere?

Shamble your're killing me, as always. Is there no other fish we can basically sub in for a tuna, or are they just an evolutiony fluke, not usefully connected to any other species of fish that would suite our needs almost as well. I haven't got a fucking clue! It is a damn good question though. The chicken has the turkey, the pea has the carrot but what is there out there that's like a tuna but isn't one???

^^ Not sure bout the nutella part Knock but I'm all about the peanut butter on toast. That's whats keeping me alive at the moment, and giving my MPA infested jaw something to work on. I got a sweet tooth too though pal for sure. Can't stop drinking tea with like 5 sugars in it. Have generally made the most of this "full cadburys's /galaxy/ whatever the fuck for a quid" phenomenon lately. I just feel like its a constant battle to maintain my weight - though i haven't been seriously under since the methoxetamine ban to be fair, but its a constant battle with all the sports and the stims. I don't know how i manage to make 12 stone I really don't.

They do that at R. S. McColl's in the train stations up here, I've only gone for it once and I usually walk away feeling slightly smug about being virtuous. But 12 stone? Fuck sake, I think it's the sports that's doing that for you, not the chocolate ;) I need to ramp up the exercise, think I must be 14 stone atm, battery's flat in my scales.

I'm 11 stone.

STROOPWAFLE for breakfast. No matter how many cakes I eat I never get fat.

Thanks for your kind removal of hurtful terminology :D

I used to never get fat too. I think, for some (maybe most) people, there is a metabolic slow down at "a certain age". That might just mean a general drop in energy levels and consequently the amount of exercise. Pretty sure it was around 27 for me.

The mackerel. Got to be a closer evolutionary step from tuna to mackerel than it is from pea to carrot. And certainly a closer substitute.

Human's share:

70% of their DNA with a carrot
80% with Zebrafish (so they're using their brains as models for human brain function. They are transparent, all the way through, so they can actually watch neural activity)
15% with Mustardgrass

I couldn't find the figures for peas or tuna but carrots are more like zebrafish than mustardgrass! (ok it's not as simple as that but I thought it was a fun fact)

I'm older than that so I'm probably safe eating cakes and cooking everything in butter for eternity.

Yeah not being funny but I'm fucking nuts when it comes to activity levels I never sit still. When I'm thinking about stuff I pace up and down the kitchen or wherever. I play football twice a week. My biggest energy expenditure is almost certainly punches thrown each day. Don't get me wrong I'm basically a total pacifist, but I'm totally obsessed with combative sports/ martial arts. In fairness I have been doing all that stuff since I was 5 years old. German mum, public school drop out failure posh dad, council estate. What would you do? Its funny to think that I still put the gloves on in the same community centre hall now, 24 laters, that I first stepped foot in all those years ago.

But anyway, i get in two one hour tae kwon do sessions a week and these sessions are fucking intense, i turn up loaded up on all sorts of shit anyway so I put 300% into every shot - hitting the pads. Even when I'm not there though I'd say I throw atleast 200 punches a day on average. Just shadow boxing, but 90% of the time i use weights. Just 2 kg ones in each hand, and I'm usually outside and working on my footwork as much as anything. I tell you i'm fucking nuts to live with. Its all useful stuff though. The only fights I've ever started have been from drinking alcohol - so i don't drink simple as that. No other drug brings out any aggression in me - not even coca. But I find it so useful to be able to defuse situations. My mate who got slashed by his nutty girl friend - wouldn't have happened if i was there. And I have been before. When she's just gone off on a frenzy out of no where, he sort of gets into panic mode, but I'm so used to the rhythm and timing of a physical encounter that i can totally nullify anything she does, without her really knowing what's going on. If you restrain people they get mad, but if you guide them more - just subtle things to do with creating a shield for the other person, while instinctly taking a sideways stance, with your chin tucked in and your shoulder high. Ok ramble over. I'm stim driven lune who spends half the waking day boxing imaginary people with weights in my hand. That's why I see a £1 galaxy bar purchase as a health investment. Ha

What's this thread about? Food. Excellent. Well I'm still up from night before. Mix of MPA and 5 MABP, and i was doing MPA all threw the day yesterday so I didn't really feel like a main meal. I got quite a few callories in the form of general snacking i'm pleased to say. I remember eating about 300 g of full fat greek yoghurt for dinner. I don't tolerate fat too well so I swallowed a 00 sized campsule of glycerol to break up the fats for me on that one. Had a cheese sandwhich half an hour ago. Been eating a lot of cereal last 24 hrs, as well as peanut butter on toast, and one of those 100g chocolate bars. I'm making a proper effort right now actually to do whatever I can to get the right amount of calories. Pancakes are a winner. I think i'm gonna go make a pan cake now. Lemon and sugar - with a decent blob of yoghurt to cool the fucking thing down so i can eat it some time today.

Mailmonkey, pea to carrot was a bungled reference to forest gump. However, I support your quest to get the bottom of this tuna stumper that shambles has unleashed on us

Mackeral isn't robust and meaty enough to be a tuna replacement. Unless I've completely forgotten the taste and texture of mackeral (a real possibility). I'd be thinking more along the lines of swordfish maybe. Although that's just from seeing other folk talk about it. Never had it meself and is no doubt a poor comparison or somebody would already be canning 'em.

Tuna replacement fish would have to work well with mayonaise in sarnies and stuff and also hold up well in pasta bakes. This is the purpose of (tinned) tuna. Fresh tuna I'm less concerned about cos folk who can afford such things can afford to find and fund their own fish faff.

After bingeing and purging for the last few weeks I'm trying to eat normally and this thread just makes me wanna EAT! Mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm Nutella mmmm

You can't put swordfish in tins Shambles, it's pretty rare as a fish and quite expensive, tuna is a mass exploitation foodstuff, they are harvested in industrial amounts. Over here sfordfish is very common and part of the national cuisine, but it's something we eat maybe once a month not more than that as a steak is dearer than prime beef. It's also on the endangered list.

We should rely less on wild fish and more on aquaculture, it does have its problems, especially with pollution but for conservation issues it would be a step in the right direction.

Had a feeling swordfish were also a bit scarce, Kenny. Only mentioned them at all as I've always heard them described as being a firm, meaty fish kinda like tuna. Unlike mackeral which isn't. Have a feeling there is no real not-tuna tuna waiting in the wings. Perhaps we should be growing it in labs like they're doing with beef. It's the future. Probably.

Blimey O'Crikey this turned out to be one fukkuva hot curry 8o

Am having to pause and drink soothing liquids after just a third of me plateful 8(

Lordy some of those Bonnets are spiky blighters. Spicing in general is very tasty and well-balanced. Capsaicin aspect is a tad pokey though 8o

Inna good way <3

Scotch Bonnets are fiery indeed, a few years ago I bought different seeds online, managed to grow Jalapenos, Scotch Bonnet and Habaneros, they came out quite good.

What did you put in the curry?

At least one too many Scotch Bonnets :D

Am also growing some at the moment. I think. Got several seedling from three different chili varieties sprouting on me sill anyway. Which varieties actually sprouted I'm yet to discover...

Curry is mostly just pork and potato. Was gonna be pork 'n' beans but only had chick peas in at the time when I wanted black eye peas so used potato as a stopgap. Is mostly korma-type spicing with extra bits here and there and a hefty dollop of tomato puree and a good chunk of coconut cream to mellow it slightly. And loadsa fresh coriander. Is tasty. But hot. Jeebus Fuckbots it's hot 8o
