Oh God that looks good , yet again, bearlove.

i really can't be arsed to cook tonight, it's all the sun. I might have a kebab :(

If you have never tried it before- please make the salsa !

Mango, red onions, garlic, cucumbers, jalapeno, lime juice and some vinegar (white works best).

mmmm, i do like salsas... <3 It's the time of year for them, day off work tomorrow, if the sun's shining I might go and see if I can catch a few early mackerel %)

....A lovely salsa with mackerel is green apple, lime, coriander, red onion, red chilli, and i think i used rice wine vinegar last time, but can vary it....there's something else I put in there too, I keep thinking it's some firm tomato, but that doesn't sound right..been a long time since last summer

Will try your one though as well Bearlove :)

MM do you go fishing ? I know some of the guys told me I would be in trouble if you heard I used tinned tuna in my fish cakes :D. Have you cooked with cuttlefish before? I had the baby ones in Thailand last year - but I want to make a stew with red peppers, paprika, tatties etc.

cuttlefish is lovely, massive thick bodies on them, just like very thick squid, same cooking , either flash fried, and in the case of a stew either drop a few pieces in at the end or cook it in the stew for a very long time....

I haven't cooked with the baby ones, ate them in Spain a few times...never seen them on sale here, and never catch the baby ones, even the big ones are an occasional accidental catch...

They only cost a quid or so off the fising boats, again, to them big cuttles are just bycatch, and they sell them for potbait.

EDIT>>>>do you live anywhere near the sea Bearlove?

:D - bit of a random conversation but hey ho - The baby ones are great flash fried or as in Thailand bbq'd and served in a bag of mega hot sauce. 2£ was enough for two guys as we were wandering. I can get the bigger ones - 1kilo + a pop for next to nothing so want to make a stew :D

The bigger ones are massive, and if you slice the flesh into strips they can still be flash fried.

Octopus is better for stews imo, much more flavour comes out, and Octopus needs long slow cooking. Squid and cuttle I much prefer cooked as little as possible.

I love Octopus - Can you believe it was 20 Euro a plate in Spain last year (two tatties half an Octopus 25 Eu a plate) I can get cuttlefish for almost nowt a kilo. Yeah there the big fuckers so need a bit of TLC but still !

Im thinking clean, chop and stew - add tatties, maybe chickpeas over rice ?

Spiced lamb shoulder with lemongrass-boiled potatoes, plus stir fried garlic and runner beans.

Looked so damn good I had to share it. All cooked by myself!

Albion, that looks good enough to eat! Impressed. How tender is your meat?

Which reminds me, I need to purchase some meat. I want to eat flesh.

How did you cook that?

edit: wait a minute I thought those were asparagus spears, but they're runner beans. What did you do to them?

Was really tender!

It was a Sainsbury's spiced lamb shoulder package. Just 50 minutes in the oven, adding a marinade 40 minutes in. Really is one of the best ready-to-cook meals they provide.

Beans were stir-fried for 10 minutes with some oil and a couple of cloves of garlic.

I might take a trip (just in the car, sadly) into Edinburgh where my nearest Sainsbury's resides. I don't trust Tesco's meat-based "packages".

^thats some size meal :) - bet it tasted great.

I ate last nights curry for lunch then went out tonight for food.

That looks bloody tasty, Albi.

Just munched half a Co-Op stuffed crust cheese pizza wiv added ham and "Truly Irresistible" dry cured bacon. And chili sauce. And some Cheshire cheese sprinkled atop. All either on offer or in the reduced bit so much more of a bargain than it sounds. Surprisingly tasty too. Actually gobsmackingly tasty. Aside from the "cheese" stuffed in the crust. It's clearly not cheese. Not even close really.

Just back from Sainsbury's, got Albion's lamb shoulder but I'm having asparagus spears, red and green peppers and mushrooms with mine. Note low key role played by carbs.

I think it's nicer grilled. You're not fat, you're skinny. I'm just thinking of the taste :)
You may think that but you haven't had halloumi fried by me, it's a true winner with all the peeps I feed it to! Nommmz.

Grilling is good too if done on a high enough heat and for the correct amount of time. Too long or too soon and it like eating Michelin tyres
