No not baiting :D

I have several knives, the jewel in the selection is a Lion Sabatier cook's knife which I don't think I've ever used. I'm going to get it out, though, as the knife I normally use was pissing me off for remaining blunt after a quick sharpening.

MM: If I tried to sharpen it it'd probably disintegrate. It really is waffffer thin. Slightly serrated though which will hopefully keep it useful enough for a while. Enough to get me quid's worth of use out of it anyway. My finances being the way they are stuff like knives and chopping boards are pretty low on the list of priorities. I was considering investing in a potato masher as am very partial to mashed potato and sick of fukkin Smash. But decided to save meself a quid cos I own a fork. Only the one fork, mind.

Bought a new paring knife from the pound shop a few weeks back and is still good enough to use. Could definitely do with a sharpen though. I know it's a false economy but spunking money on practical stuff when I can buy summat that'll just about do for a quid instead just ain't gonna happen anytime soon. There are lots of nice things in the world I could do with. But I can't have them so make do with crap in the hope that one day I won't have to. At least my crap has gone up a notch recently. Pound shop is very handy for acquiring quite useful crap that's significantly less crap than what I have currently. Once again. baby steps ;)

Inspired by gayorstraight's "the fat's not the problem" insight, I just ate this:

which has plenty fat and protein but isn't too bad on the carbohydrates. Was tasty, and it's true that low carb meals don't bloat you or leave you feeling useless like a big plate of pasta and garlic bread would.

Gave in and had pita bread and houmous (checked the spelling on that one, wiki says this is the standard British spelling. FYI.) and I am suffering for it, feel bloated and uncomfortable. But when I was in the kitchen all my various breadstuffs looked like the food of the gods and I couldn't control myself. 'Tis like a drug :|

Made fishcakes again last night :) - not sure if I've made anything other than curries for the last week :D

Still undecided what to cook for tea tonight - Might make Thai pumpkin curry haven't had that for a while.

Nice knife :) - I prefer Global as I don't like the handles on the Sabatier's - I have a few chef knives, a bread knife, two small utility knives and a small squarish vegetable knife. I think that investing in a decent sharpening stone is well worth the money - had mine years and seems to give a better edge than a metal rod sharpener etc

Global, rings a bell, are they one piece all steel knives? Think I have a few of them, very comfortable to hold.

no, just googled and mine don't have the knobbly handles, they're smooth. Probably a Global knock-off.

Just had fresh gnocci and pesto, washed down with a pint of fresh tap water, straight from the tap.

I just had some handmade crisps. I tried making some for the first time using a potato peeler the other day and they were excellent, although using the peeler to make them was a pain. So I bought a cheap mandolin off ebay. But even on the thinnest setting today, the crisps were too thick, to the point that even fried to a deep brown colour on the outside, they're still a bit soft on the inside. So I'm a bit disappointed about that :( Not sure if it's because it's a cheap one or whether it's just not the right tool for the job, anyone else made their own crisps before and got any recommendations?

Yes but there is a huge difference between complex carbs and normal sugars that get absorbed in the blood stream right away. That's why atheletes eat lots of pasta before games, well I watched a documentary about the national football team and the doctor was saying pasta and bananas are great as they slowly release their sugars so you have energy for an extended period of time.

Yeah this is what I've been told and read too. It doesn't change the fact that a high-carb meal makes me sleepy, uncomfortable and useless. If I had a faster metabolism, like athletes do, maybe it wouldn't be like that. But I'm still working on doing three pull ups. I think my muscles have somehow lost the ability to respond to exercise.

They will raise your blood sugar regardless of them being complex or whatever. I hate this debate so this is my last comment.

There knobbly (for your/her/his pleasure) - really nicely balanced piece of kit. I just like them as there made from the one piece (so no germ phobia etc).

*Goes hunting for camera*
