MamaSham always kept spaghetti in one of those jars, Kate. Was that uberlong kinda spaghetti that you don't often see these days too hence also being one of the longest jars known to man.

I am not by nature a decantor. However, I have saved several large coffee jars from when there's an offer on and I can afford stupidly large jars of coffee. I intend to use them for storing dried things for curries and similar - dried peas, lentils and so on.

I still have about 10 big 3 litre mason jars from when I used to grow weed. thought nothing of seeing them all full of curing buds.

Since I stopped growing I must have scraped and scraped every spare trichome out of those jars.

I should maybe start using them for pasta, rice, and pulses.

is this what age does to you? :(

Funny you mentioning that - the curry thing. I've been looking for something better to store my 'erbs n' spices (the culinary kind) in. At the moment I keep them in the jars they're bought in, if in packets I decant into spice jars I've kept and washed out - they are then all kept in a large shallow box on a shelf. Now 2 boxes as there are so many. They're heavy and I have to rake through them to find what I want as there's no order, categorization n whatnot. It's bloody annoying me :!

Don't know how I've let it come to this as my baking things are all organised sensibly in their rightful places / labelled / boxes / shelves.

Any ideas?

Think you'd like this curry, it has a shambles waft to it - I can smell it 3 rooms away! 8o only joking <3

(hugs) x

I have a terrible attack of the comfort eat munchies today and nothing in to satisfy it. House is full of bloody heath food. Only got brown basmati :\

Edit: yes this is what happens when you are 40+ MrM

Only problem with jars is they take up the the same space regardless of what's left in them; never seems very efficient to me to have massive containers with three or four lentils in them. For that reason I'm out and sticking with bags and rubber bands.

Just munched a McVities Digestive Medley - Caramel, Milk Chocolate, Cereals and Biscuit Chunks. They've just appeared in Asda and are a bit like a low-rent Tracker bar. Quite liking them.

You mean you don't have a revolving stock system in place? So you never run out of anything?

I really need to review my life don't I :\

I'm eating 5 minute chocolate mug cake and home made custard, I had to make 2 others before I could do mine. its a good way to use the fresh eggs and you cant make a better quicker winter pud.

I use a big mug, a heaped tablespoon, a whole egg and self raising flour and it takes about 2 minutes in my microwave. You have to add chopped chocolate if you want to take it from good to great. Cut in half it serves two, but be warned the chocolate sinks so choose your half wisely.

You cant use synthetic vanilla either, its illegal.

Heres the cake: http://www.instructables.com/id/5-minute-Chocolate-Cake/#step1

and the good old custard: http://allrecipes.co.uk/recipe/3087/real-egg-custard.aspx

Its filling & chocolately but light.

Home made Chicken and Leak Pie, 4 breasts, never knew leeks where such an annoyance, (onion family?) and not much pastry, but it was fucking good.

What are your problems with leeks?

They are a piece of piss, versatile, and essential in many dishes.

I can help you with your leek problems. I grow leeks too, but not very well, they are hard to grow well.

Badandwicked im going to instruct ms swedger to make the microwave cupcake thing and maybe add cinamon as we have some of that. Looks like a winning recipe. Good feedback all round

This evening I made 2 burgers from 200gs of steak mince, mustard powder, chopped onion and an egg yoke to bind. Was ok. Very edible!

Made a (jar of) chilli with the remaining 300g of mince.

^ actually not all reviews of that cup cake were great.

Leeks - hard to grow? Leeks are a piece of piss to grow. FAIL MrM FAIL :p

This deserves a new thread - take a note MM, your first new mod job will be to make a new thread about growing leeks. Make sure you add that to your application to me. OK :!

I can grow leeks, tasty leeks, but they don't meet my high standards. Like you say, any cunt can grow a leek, but not any cunt can grow a leek well.

Always a bit stumpy.

Isn't it all about the earthing up? I tried once but it was too faffy all that transplanting and stuff. I couldnt really spare the space for something I never use.

make it yourself you lazy fucker :) actually no, you did a nice dinner she can do pud. Thats fair. Tell her my top tips :)

yeah it is about transplanting, and transplanting, and earthing up....and yes, can be in the ground 40 weeks so does take up some space, hence the transplanting so you can use the ground for something else before they go in their final spots.....

Its harder than it sounds....

I'll get there one day.

Time to get the seed catalogues out, planting me broad beans out over the next few weeks.

Don't believe a word from stumpy here B&W he wouldn't know a leek if it pissed on him. Just shove em in your sandy soil and your off!
