Swans: Blind

^ I am in love with this song.

Great, ain't it? ;)

Here's how he sings it now, with his older, more natural voice. From his room. Missing the production sheen of the other version, but still very affecting:

Michael Gira - You See Through Me

But it ain't all darkness, like:

Michael Gira - Your Naked Body

Now that's gorgeous. And he seems embarrassed about it. Hence the 'fuck you all'.

And the same guy writes songs for his niece. Here you go:

Michael Gira - Rosalie & Juliette

I didn't start it this time. For once. I find it cathartic, but many people find it disturbing, so lurkers beware.

Last bit of Gira, I swear. Blame Albie!

It's a shame he had to split the Angels and revive the Swans name in order to make money (as in a modest income - he sends his records out himself). But I suppose he deserves some credit after years of being ripped off:

Angels Of Light - Untitled Love Song

There's nothing left to rise above but you...

Piss off enough music journos, though, and you can guarantee you'll be ignored. Until years afterwards, when enough bands have namedropped you.

Here's a couple of ambient records, the first one being the most difficult:

Swans - Soundtracks For The Blind

Some of the actual songs are maybe overblown, but the album as an experience... fucking hell. Remember he's an American, had probably never heard The Orb et al, and was an alcoholic residing in a tent when he put this together. NOT easy listening, but not unlistenable. If it were Aphex Twin, people would praise it to the heavens. Which is not to say Richard isn't a frightening talent, but I think he's a Swans fan too.

And then: The Body Lovers - Track 5

But just listen to the whole thing. The sounds of crying are obviously authentic recordings of Michael upsetting Jarboe. As you do.

Which reminds me - I bet jancrow hasn't heard that Heartbreakers LP yet. Tut-tut.

Fuck it - as I've been self-absorbed all day, here's the best version of possibly the best Swans song. If anyone's still listening, brace yourselves because this shit is real:

Swans - Her

EDIT: Cleared the room, didn't I? Sorry. :D

Confused, you linked to Love of Life but called it Her 8(

You actually click on my links? Fool. :D

You're right - for some silly reason, the version of Her isn't on there, or at least I can't find it. It's beautiful though. Achingly so. Steal the album if you can - it's out of print. Or if you're actually interested, I can arrange an MP3 version.

Anyway, here's how good they were live at that point:

Swans - God Loves America

Just wait for what the kids would call 'the drop'. Oh my. <3

Right, seeing as I've already been a dick and it's late:

Johnny Thunders - Hurt Me

Maybe I'm the prize fool because I tried
But if I gave up
Life would really suck

Just because.

Johnny Thunders - Diary Of A Lover

For a nice chick I met.

Johnny Thunders - I'd Much Rather Be With The Boys (Than Girls Like You)

For my ex. And lots of other women. :D

And finally, though I should delete it before people wake up and think I'm soft:

Richard Hell - All The Way

Sinatra hit done by a nonsinger. And actually far more moving for it. If you're me, at least.

It's high time I shut up, really.
