My band supported the singer from (the Australian) X a couple of months back. He's a very dapper looking rock'n'roll gentleman these days.
As for heritage, I hope you don't mind me turning you onto some of the best Australian music of yore. Not that I am proud of being a fucken colonial or anything.
I saw this band
The Victims last weekend. The first punk band (in bumfuck nowhere, Western Australia) to get a record out, anyway.
Drummer is a good friend of mind - as a youngster in 1976 he visited NYC (to see the ramones at Max's and CBGB) then to London where he saw some early pistols gigs, the heartbreakers, the clash (who he auditioned for I believe) and befriended a kid named John (later to be rechristened Sid and join the pistols).
When he ran out of money he came home, and started some of this town - and Australia's best bands.
I don't know if you know of the Scientists, or the beasts of bourbon? He also was a forming member of the Hoodoo Gurus (with the singer from the victims) who went on to become quite a popular 80s band - but IMO they lost their edge after the drummer left after the first record.
Most of these bands are revered in Europe, but I don't know about the UK. Anyway, I'll throw some out there for kicks.
