Not a fact either.

The first record played on Radio 1 was Johnny Dankworth's 'Beefeaters', as the opening show's theme. The first to be played in full was The Move's 'Flowers In The Rain'.

Maybe SHM is thinking of a different Radio One.

You're such a sad cunt. But I'll give you Flowers in the Rain. Still a sad cunt though.

Sonic Youth - Sunday

Love the Sonic Youth, SHM.

I was dimly aware of the Australian X, but I now see that they're 1000x better than the American X.

Thanks for that. :D

My band supported the singer from (the Australian) X a couple of months back. He's a very dapper looking rock'n'roll gentleman these days.
As for heritage, I hope you don't mind me turning you onto some of the best Australian music of yore. Not that I am proud of being a fucken colonial or anything.
I saw this band The Victims last weekend. The first punk band (in bumfuck nowhere, Western Australia) to get a record out, anyway.
Drummer is a good friend of mind - as a youngster in 1976 he visited NYC (to see the ramones at Max's and CBGB) then to London where he saw some early pistols gigs, the heartbreakers, the clash (who he auditioned for I believe) and befriended a kid named John (later to be rechristened Sid and join the pistols).
When he ran out of money he came home, and started some of this town - and Australia's best bands.
I don't know if you know of the Scientists, or the beasts of bourbon? He also was a forming member of the Hoodoo Gurus (with the singer from the victims) who went on to become quite a popular 80s band - but IMO they lost their edge after the drummer left after the first record.
Most of these bands are revered in Europe, but I don't know about the UK. Anyway, I'll throw some out there for kicks.

The Saints aside, most Oz-punk gets neglected over here in favour of some of the shittier bandwagon-jumping UK bands.

Cheers for the links, not to mention the story. :D

And just to tie it back together, this guy was a founding member of all of the aforementioned bands - this was the b-side to his one and only solo release (the a-side being the Troggs' i can't control myself!)

The James Baker Experience - Born to be Punched

A good mate and a fucking incredible drummer.
Sorry for the Aussie Underground invasion....but I hope at least Sammy digs some of these.

I may have gotten the details of his travels a little wrong (saw Johnny Thunders and the Heartbreakersin the USA, according to this recent tv appearance (a rarity - as these guys are all but ignored in this country)
