Isn't it amazing how things pan out over time?
I first became aware of William Orbit in 1990 when I walked into a record shop and saw an album with a psychedelic cover entitled 'Set the controls for the heart of the bass' by an outfit called 'Bassomatic', produced by William Orbit.
The obvious Pink Floyd reference was not lost on me, so I bought it. It was fuckin brilliant.
Several years later, I became aware of his 'Strange Cargo' albums.
Went with Es like fish with chips.
Now, I've found out today that he's playing with Hawkwind tonight at the Royal Albert Hall.
Apparently, the first album he ever bought was Hawkwind's 'In Search of Space'.
And that fuckin explains everything...
