Marmalade: Good call on Spiritualized / Spacemen 3. Did you hear the version of 'Ladies...' with the gospel choir singing 'Can't help falling in love' on the recent reissue? Spine tingling.
Nope
Theyre one of the few bands left I buy actual hard copies of anymore tho, but I was cashless at the time of its release. Was also under the impression it was a v limited release so haven't even tried to pick up a copy since. I have a live bootleg of a full gig he did with the St Mary's Choir, but it's a shit recording so I'll dl the reissue tonight, cheers. It'll probably make me cry cos I'm a total wuss when it comes to Spiritualized.
Saw them in Manchester about 2 years ago performing the whole album, but was totally disappointed. It was a seated theatre style gig for the 'Don't Look Back' series. Sitting down politely, tapping a pamphlet on my knee just felt fucking
wrong & was sooo frustrating. Hopefully their next gig in Manc in Feb will be better. Succumbed to buying the Ladies & Gents mug they were flogging ... luuurve the original CD design & pills/'scrip format, & the mug carries the same theme. thanks to Jason, one never runs outta pills ;p
Teenage Riot and
Mudhoney's 'In and Out of Grace' probably qualify as the soundtrack to my early 90's. best period of my life ever, esp musically. Still love both tracks a ton. Saw MH in '92, in Sheffield. Pavement were touring at the same time, & I totally regret choosing to see MH instead of them
Finally got to see SY for the first time this December in Manchester. Awesome gig & was gagging to hear T Riot but they didnt fucking play it! Kim Gordon's stamina & stage presence is jaw-dropping. Bit of a weird crowd and it wasnt a 'hits/singles' set by any stretch. Someone yelled out, '
play Debaser!' :D
Classy.
That album was one of the first I ever heard when i was 'bout 6 or something, thanks to my first record player and a bro who'd just dumped the Bay City Rollers & jumped ship to metal/rock. Sabbath, Led Zep, The Smurfs, ACDC, The Beatles, Petula Clark and a sprinkling of var C & W artists can take credit for turning me onto music
The Jesus and Mary Chain- Head on

JAMC tons.
I think the Pixies do Head On a decent justice. S'one of only a few cover versions I actually prefer to the original
The Pixies - Head On
Currently listening to:
The Velvet Underground - Oh! Sweet Nuthin'
theyve been on my playlist on and off for the last month. never get bored of em, almost every track in their discog still screams epic
