What are you currently reading? v2

when I'm out of my epic bath sesh, I'll post the intro for you to read. it doesnt explain the book's intent, but does place a bit of context.

I'm flicking thru it right now while splish-splashing and it's a really good book for that kind of reading and doesn't have to be read in a linear fashion

weirdly, as soon as I picked it up the other day I immediately thought about the painting below by Marcus Harvey, and that it had a similar kinda feel, and whilst flicking thru I just came across the commentary he makes about that exact piece, and it pretty much echoes my own thoughts about the palarva surrounding it to the letter

As for trusting him, he's deliberately perverse and beyond ambiguous. He's definitely not a paedophile but he reveres childhood in a sometimes-creepy way. I'm trying to fish out his quote about a young girl he knows, but the upshot is 'she must be protected from filth and evil'.

Philip K Dick - Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch....again, I'm re-reading allot of his books of late I think you could just print this one on a mobius loop and still not really fully understand it !

That picture and the associated photo are so iconic yet of you see other picture of her at the time they look nothing like that ?

yeah. thoroughness and reality and 1st person perspective = great understanding and if it's well intentioned, really hits the mark for me. I'm not convinced he isn't speaking from first person experience and knowledge tho, tbh [and I don't think it devalues what he writes if he is, quite the opposite], but i do have trust in his intent now after reading some more. he's got the benefit of my doubt now however it appears on the surface

<3 and agree muchly x 100. it's the device I identify with the most. and 'agenda-free, lo direction' info really does strike a cord with me more than any other kind. [edit] I know it's not agenda free, but it's a 'present everything, warts n all and let people decide for themselves' approach. it has faith in humans in other words

thought about it when i was younger, but quickly decided against it. find it fascinating, read books and watched lots of documentarys about various wars... although the older i get, the more socially aware ive become over the years and the more i realize about the fucked up cruel nature of humanity and how pointless war is, how much money is spent on it, and the aftermath etc, i realize its just a very disgusting pointless destructive thing, and im losing interest

Apache by Ed Macy is also worth a read, those pilots are amazing!

yeah would definitely be interesting to read from the perspective of civillians and the iraq views, we only hear one side

the fitness side of the army also facinates me, and what soliders can endure. i assume you're interested in wars and history?

Of course, of course, I'm not really a complete philistine. My failure to respond to this impression is just that, not a general failure ;) Maybe it's just not for me.
