    Welcome Guest!

What annoys me about "blowing up" etc

VelocideX, I haven't been following this whole thread, but I read your first post. I couldn't agree more. Though, I actually don't believe MDMA should be used as a party drug of an sort. I don't care for the rave scene, though the parties would be fun without drugs (or at least drugs that can be used better otherwise), and I really never cared for the 60's/70's LSD scene, though I do respect it and find beauty in the music. I admire the way tribe's people, Indians, and other cultures used psychelics as ceremonial. It meant something awesome. It was to engage in life changing experiences, experiences of oneness with nature, and experiences with God. I'm not saying MDMA should be taken alone, or just one on one, but at a party where people are just wanting to have "fun?" I just believe there is a better place for it.

I'm not denying the validity of using MDMA to amplify the party experience -- I certainly use it for that purpose.

I'm trying to say that there's more to life than just the high itself.... and i am dismayed to see people at parties who are there solely for the high and nothing else.

VelocideX - Your initial comments are the product of a jaded person, who has defiently had more than a 'few' pills, and a control freak type personality.

Thats OK. That is your story, and that has worked for you, and got you through life. Maybe it will keep working for you.

But there is an 'inner' child deep stuck within you for the rest of your life, and you can supress it because of ego reasons, or let it 'out' in an appropriate setting and place, like a rave, and enjoy just being silly and having 'pure' fun, not just intellectual/structured fun which too many adults only let themself do.

I come from the Melbourne rave scene and mate you would love it here - lots and lots of control freaks that only 'dance' properly, and 'act' properly, and 'speak' properly. SO boring. And guess what, melbournes favorite music for the last 10 years in the 'rave' scene is techno - the most controlled structured 'control freak' repeatative music ever invented.

And I do agree with you on your second last message about people taking too many drugs at raves - I hate it as well. I usually have 1.5 pills at a rave and nothing else - no alcohol, no joints, no speed, no ketamine, ect, and I hate it when I meet people on 5 different drugs getting as 'fucked up' as possible.

By the way, what type of music do you play when you DJ ?

I feel like I'm not being particularly articulate in this thread....

I do enjoy having a lot of fun - I'm a loooong way from being a control freak. I'm a very silly person to be around, perpetually playing pranks (ooh the alliteration :P) on those around me, joking around, always making lame jokes for the sake of getting a groan... I'm involved in sketch-based stage comedy shows.

I'm a very silly person :D

There is a large distinction between sillyness, fun, relaxation and stepping outside the rules/bounds of everyday life and a crusade to amplify the drug high.

I've done my fair share of drugs... Hell we we even took pills at 10am in the morning once, and the resulting stupidity was immensely funny. But that's because we did something with it - we wandered around, played jokes, forgot stuff, made idiots of ourselves and were generally sociable.

We convinced like 50 people one time at a party where horses were in nearby paddocks that the police hadn't brought sniffer dogs because they'd trained sniffer horses and put them in the paddocks with other horses. They were unmarked sniffer horses to boot. Except they weren't as smart as sniffer dogs, so if they smelled drugs on you they ran you down and trampled you to death. We lobbed a bunch of hot dogs (uncooked) at our friends for like an hour at the same party, much to the amusement of us when they couldn't work out why it was raining uncooked hot dogs. One time we lost the chillout room for an hour. We pretended to be dealers in front of the police, and they started quizzing us despite the fact that i kept telling my friend about how i had 200,000 pills down my pants. I had to remind the police that that wasn't really possible until they left us alone... (we weren't on anything that time :P)

I don't take pills then sit in the corner waving a glowstick in front of my face whilst simulataneously inhaling nitrous for 3 hours, oblivious of the outside world. Nor do I rapidly inhale vicks in large quantities the minute I feel like I'm starting to come down -- which is inevitable anyway.

Essentially what I've implied in previous posts is that the obsession with "blowing up" and "roll tricks" is a manifestation of the desire to get "as fucked up as possible", as you've put it. There's nothing wrong with them in themselves; it's people's desire to do them at the expense of other things that betrays a dissatisfaction with the nature of the high that they presently have.

I play happy hardcore, and have played at quite a number of parties since 2000. I also collect hard trance.

well said. people trying desperately to get as fucked up as possible need to seriously reconsider their drug usage, because chances are they're not having fun anymore.

I take e, and have the time of my life. I might smoke a j when I get home but that's just because it's a ritual. I don't set out to do as much as possible so I can sit in a corner groaning while someone presses icecubes on my forehead or whatever, I set out to have a shitload of fun. Talking to people, messing with them, playing pranks, dancing randomly in streets, pretending to be a street mime (try holding that up, I start bobbing my head after a couple of seconds), putting on accents (cockney and sean connery being my best), calling up people I haven't seen in ages at 2 in the morning to say hi, standing in front of the dj's giving them mad props, going around with a polaroid taking group shots with yourself in them and then sticking the pictures on your belt or making a collage, not giving a fuck what anyone else thinks or says about the way I look, sound or act, and having a damn good time in the process. Fuck all this categorical bullshit, ravers are ravers, who gives a fuck if they wear candy or earthy colours and like jungle music? they're all there to have fun...remember what PLUR means? comeone guys, it doesn't stand for Pulling Lots of Useless Rolltricks, get out there and ENJOY THINGS, or you'll become introverted and boring! =D

I agree that just doing "roll tricks" is a stupid waste of the experience. I'm not impressed with Vicks. I love to dance with 'sticks or photons and give lightshows, but am not a big fan of getting them. I've had some of the deepest conversations with total strangers while rolling and never seen them again.

I try to make the most if each and every one of my rolling experiences.

"I've seen people in the corner so fucked up that they couldn't move properly. People who've thrown up all over the place cos they took a few too many drugs. Just the last weekend one of my friends (who was working on security for that party) said some girl who weighed 50kg or so had taken some 4.5 pills, threw up and then had to be carried to the St John's first aid.... Is this really childs play? Is this really sociable? Does this portray a good image of the scene?"

This sums up the point of this thread for me, and I totally agree with this...We used to have a huge, badass event center in a city somewhat south of here used for events and massives over and over again...It was a public venue, and therefore, able to hold all-ages, all-nighters for several years..However, the use of it as such ended a few years ago when a city council decided against it being used for all ages, all night events (specifically targeting "rave" events of course), with this action prompted from the video tapes of local police at these events...Rest assured, it doesn't look good to city councils when pigs can point out 13-14 years olds sprawled out on the ground, lying in their own puke or being spun around in circles on someone's back and fallind down...I'm sure they have plenty of shots of lightshows with kids's eyes rolling in the back of their head, etc..It just can amaze me how obvious and blatant people have to be about their substance use right in front of authority figures and think it will have no negative responses for anyone else..Hell, if people only waited on activities like that for 45 mins, the cops might walk on and have only dancing, talking and regular cavorting to proove drug use there to the public...If you want to engage in such activities, I won't even complain...Just use your head and realize that we're not in unwatchable, untouchable warehouses anymore...Authority watches and judges, though unfairly, and certain assholes are just looking for the oppurtunity to prove that a scene is centered around drug use, and therefore, should be closed down and stopped unconditionally...

You guys don't understand. I can't go to a rave and meet peope and socialize. It's ILLEGAL or at least it's hard to find one/go to one. We aren't obsessed with the high.
I roll with my best friends of 10+ years. I roll with people I grew up with. I also roll with stangers and my friends girlfriends and relatives.
I think I would like going to a rave. I love techno music now. I spent the last couple of months downloading kickass roll songs. No not happy hardcore "children of the night" I'm past that stage lol.
E lowers our inhibitions. We discuss things that we should discuss as close friends, but don't. You don't just tell your whole life to someone normally.
We are pretty glowstick crazy though. We have gotten pretty good at glowsticks, electric, chemical, or photons. What we do is not so much a "lightshow" as it is glowsticking to the music and doing unique solo glowsticking on the best parts. Glowsticking is an art form and I enjoy it a lot when it is mixed with music.

In conclusion rolling to me is about seeing my close friends, talking about everything that we have been itching to talk about, bonding, glowsticks and good music that makes you feel really good.
"Roll tricks" are not rolling, they are just something to make you feel better. Vicks is not "uber cool man, light it on fire, it fells so good" to me. Vicks is just something to open my breathing passages up and make me feel a bit of energy.

I guess "the scene" is different wherever you go and with whoever you do it with. By no means is any form of rolling "wrong" unless you are doing something blatently stupid or dangerous and irresponsible.

Lest all of you forget. The creation of MDMA was an accident. For years it was thought to be little more than a useless intermediate. There is no great "purpose" to any drug. Drugs are here and people should be free to use them as they like. Telling people how to "properly" use their drugs is the domain of the DEA and FDA. The only say they should really have is educating people on how to use them safely. To say that people taking drugs just to get "as fucked up as possible" is wrong is one step away from saying that people taking drugs "to enhance social interaction" is wrong. It's just your opinion, lets not try to force it on anyone else.

Personally, I don't like raves *at all*, but I'm not going to tell people they can't have them. Excess is it's own punishment (drunks will be punished by their livers, MDMA abusers will get some nice depression, gamblers will lose their cash). As long as they aren't affecting you (i.e. getting behind the wheel while smashed, starting fights, stealing things, etc.) leave them alone and let them do their own thing.

When it comes down to it, people who are worried about how over-indulgent people "affect the scene" are just worried about it making their lives harder. It's selfishness, exactly what they are accusing the over-indulgers of. To people with real problems that need certain drugs, all recreational users are abusers who are to blame for making it harder to get the drugs they need to function normally. If being utilitarian is all there was to life, life would be boring as shit. You might as well die after you procreate, so you can be used as fertilizer. The plants need fertilizer, you are just wasting your body by reading books and making music.

"When it comes down to it, people who are worried about how over-indulgent people "affect the scene" are just worried about it making their lives harder. It's selfishness, exactly what they are accusing the over-indulgers of. "

So you're saying their selfishness is just something we should accept without complaint and be the "better person" for letting them do it? A certainly good ideal in some situations and to good idealistic people, but preposterous to me...Damn right we're worried about them making certain aspects of our lives harder, and it's something you apparently don't understand by your statements (when you have the DEA, the government, local law enforcement all watching and judging you, threatening you by taking away your rights to go to a fucking musical event, it only becomes natural to defend and stand up for a part of what has become yours)...They ARE affecting us, all of us in a local and even greater scene by their actions..Many who over-indulge have selfish and careless behaviour, which in many, many cases here, occurs in people who only come into our scene for 6-9 months and could give a fuck about where it goes after that (Realize I'm not stereotyping, but in my years of experience, I have come to notice a thing or two about the flow of people in and out of the electronic scene, along with noting many of the trends and actions of different types of people)...Where the hell are all those people during the protests against local or nation governments acts against our events? Where are they during the multitude of small, local dj's events to support the scene? These "over-indulgent" people simply don't care, they only want a public, "hip" place to do their drugs in, and we're subject to it. I have no problem with their degree of usage or methods until they bring it around us in a public light... It is they who are selfish, care little to nothing about the other people and dj's there (again, I've talked to plenty of people in my time partying, and these "noodles" as we call them here, have very, VERY little to say on anything other than drugs and blowing up), and don't berate us for sticking up for something which has come to mean more to us than fools like that ever will...It is we who will continue to party and support in the future, not those who "over-indulge" and understand nothing of our appreciations for music, vibe and energy...

"If being utilitarian is all there was to life, life would be boring as shit. "

I totally agree, but I don't see how you connect Velocide's statements nor mine with being utilitarian, and even we have differing opinions on those who take too much or spend the whole nite trying to blow up, etc....At no point was I myself describing a pre-set bunch of rules with the "correct use of MDMA"..I think people should use in whatever the hell way they want too man (as my gf always says, diversity is a GOOD thing), it's only when they bring it into a musical scene that's already under fire for the same actions that others have done when I have a problem with it (especially when they haven't been in it for more than a month and think they can treat public venues and people like their own rooms and trash it accordingly)...Hell, if it wasn't the same situation we had now, I'd probably hardly care less if there were people doing over-indulgence all over the place, it is their choice like you say..It's not for them that I party, it's for me and my friends...

And on a personal note, I have never, repeat NEVER taken MDMA nor any other chemical under the delusion of having a greater purpose behind it other than to have a fantastic time, connect on a higher level with my friends and gf, think on specific things at a clarified and different level, etc, etc...I don't even fully buy into the whole "Once you get the message, hang up the phone" phrase...I don't use MDMA to get a message, I already have one..

If the people that organized the scene really care then why don't they kick the stupid people out? Perhaps it involves a little bit of greed on their part? Bars are able to kick people out that have a few too many drinks, so clubs should just as easily kick people out who are too rowdy or intoxicated and may pose a danger to others. Why buy into the DEA's profiling? You can't compromise with injustice, you have to face it head on. I just can't accept a "better than nothing" attitude when it comes to freedoms as basic as what chemicals I choose to put in to my body. Even the FDA has overstepped it bounds by not only placing limits on safety standards for foods, but also by saying what dietary supplements I may or may not take. The "slippery slope" is happening right now and we can't make compromises just because "well, that is something i don't like anyway so i don't care if other people get in trouble for it".
First they came for the Jews
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for the Communists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a Communist.
Then they came for the trade unionists
and I did not speak out
because I was not a trade unionist.
Then they came for me
and there was no one left
to speak out for me.

i'm very glad to not be pestered by bullshit candyravers with their dumb tricks and what not. these people roll twice a week but know NOTHING about MDMA nor manage to appreciate the true beauty of it. MDMA is so much more than what a few underage idiots use it for. as you can see i'm rather annoyed by how many people use it.

i agree. these kinds of threads are littered with drug snobbery - i don't have a problem with the way i do drugs but i have a problem with the way you do drugs?

why not let it go and rejoice in the fact that different people enjoy different drugs in different ways?

I like feeling good. That is why I take MDMA. I dont know about the rest of you, but it makes me feel fucking AWSOME. Some things make it feel even BETTER. I talk to everyone, I dance to the music, but I also participate in these events if they are going on. All bullshit aside, they are fun. They are games you play when fucked up, and if you dont wanna play, go sit at the bar with the drunks and talk about how shitty life is. I on the other hand will be sitting/dancing in the corner digging the heavy bass, rubbing my hands over anything soft i can, talking about how much i love life.

to each thierown. I take mdma for whatever reason i want, and have fun.

ON A SIDE NOTE. A club is a cool place to meet new people, and have intimate conversations, but its not the right place. Dont get me wrong, I love meeting and talking to new people, but for you to complain that people acting like kids on MDMA at clubs is stupid. Have a nice friends only session at home, or drop a few pills and go to the mall. If you are going to the club, go for the music. The rest is up to you, and the club owner.

On another side note. This only applies to US people, no one out of country, I dont know how it is there.

I am sorry if i offended anyone, and for clarifications sake. I do not take E at clubs. The wannabe gangsters wearing 15 pounds of gold chains, and the drunks go to the clubs here. I go to raves. They may not be underground anymore, and even though no drugs are permitted ;] they are about the music, and secondly drugs. maybe not to you, and maybe im completely wrong, but shut the fuck up.

I HATE ETARDS, I will not spin you around on my back while my friend blows vicks in your eyes and puts icyhot on your nuts and shoves a glowstick up your ass, but I will be damned if someone is gonna say you cant, or shouldnt be able to do that.

I am a firm believer that doing drugs is a victimless crime, and should be made legal. I also believe that you should be able to do them however you want, and if you dont hurt anyone but yourself, go ahead and bring the vicks trucks in, its party time.

I agree that it is a drug, but do you really want to be taking drugs for the sake of taking drugs?

Sure, I've done it, and most pill-takers have... but what do you get out of the MDMA experience? extra energy? love for others? Ultimately the experience has to be utilitarian in some sense - you're trying to gain something that you could not have without the drug.

What other purpose is there for taking drugs than the sake of taking drugs? If one wanted to be sober, why drop an e-bomb? If you can't talk and be social, without the help and support of MDMA are you really using the drug for the right reason? As my friends in AA tell me, if you drink to be social you are an alcoholic.

So I dance with glowsticks! What does it matter?

I go to a rave once a month, and raves are the only place I use Ecstacy. Why would I want to go to a party sober? What's wrong with me dropping seven pills in one night and getting floored out? Does it affect your ability to have a good time? Seeing people on the sidelines who can't keep in control. So what? It's this attitude of "I use for this purpose, and that is the only purpose worthwhile," that I can't stand. I cannot fathom why someone would want to use in moderation. If you can be high, why not be higher? It feels GOOD! That's the reason for using. No one takes the drug so they can hate everyone else. Take the drug to get high, and get as high as you can.

I understand that it's a the "ravers" like me, the ones who end up in the hospital and the ones who can't move at the end of the night are the ones who give the rave scene a bad rap. I'm sorry. But people will think what they will think. Just the fact that thee are kids, feeling love for one another, and having fun is reason enough for some of those who dislike the rave scene.

Side note: I've never been to the hospital. But I will one day! ;)

Sometimes, I hate this elitest attitude some people have. I would if throwing an event would kick out the uber messed up kids in the corner out. It's just bad business to have puke covered kids in the corner. When you kick then out, give them a little card in their pocket telling them to come back when they grow up a little, and don't overdo it... Makes them think a little about next time.

I don't hate people for the way they use drugs. I hate people who can't handle drugs, but do them anyway.

People who get drunk and fall on the ground repeatedly and injure themselves annoy me. People who do a drugs until they can no longer talk or comprehend anything. People who think, hey it's E, I can do whatever I want because it feels sooo good annoy me.
Some people should not just jump into drugs. If you can't handle weed and alcohol, you have no business taking a bunch of pills.
