What age do you think you will die?

My uncle joked he would die at 35 from drug use. He died 4 days before his 35th birthday. My father joked he would die at 43, he died 2 weeks before his 43rd birthday. I always joked I was gonna die at 55, so maybe then. Either way I'm tough on my body, between working out, uppers, downers, speedballs, all the shit that I've done that's been cut, I don't expect much past 60. Which I'm glad, I don't want my kids changing my shitty diapers.

**edit

Some rap is okay with autotune, but tpain brought it to a whole nother' level. Rap isn't even rap anymore. Back in MY DAY (old man status) rap was really rap. Not this watered down R&B + Hip hop mix that is labeled "Rap"

Also for the first time since like 05 or 04 I heard a real rap song, Hammer Dance by slaughter house. I mostly listen to metal now, but anyone who likes rap listen to them.

Slaughter house = joe budden, royce da 5'9, joell ortiz, and Crooked I. Maybe those guys are a little too old for some of you youngn's, but that's how real rap should sound.

----> Also the beat of the song sounds like "Falling away from me" by KoRn. Serious. It's a good song though.

Vocoders were originally hardware developed for long-distance telephone calls or secure communication, I think. I believe that California Love features a talkbox, which works in a similar way to a vocoder. Autotune's rather different, but all three can sound similar. :sus:

2Pac - California Love

good use of autotune

Good for showing how autotune kills songs that would otherwise be good. I liked this until that digitised 'California' cheesed it up.

Vocoders sound awesome when they're done right like in this song and this song. Whereas autotune...I've seriously yet to hear an autotuned song that wasn't cheapened by the autotune.

Christ, I don't know how old you are but I don't think I'm that old & even back in my day (I'm 27) hip hop was much better than most of the shite that's out now. The good stuff is still there though, you just have to sift through the pish to find it.

Slaughterhouse are fucking excellent. Is it not an actual sample of Korn on that track?

I was just jokin about the "Back in my day" - I'm almost 24, I just don't know how young the kids are on this board (some definitely in 16-18 range) and when I listened to rap as a teen it wasn't this dance & lovey dovey crap. Rap has changed a lot since 06. Even before that it was definitely changing, but I grew up on songs like Shook ones (mobb deep) - Renee (lost boys) - Warning (biggy) and ton of bonethugs, and a lot more. Not chris brown, kayne west, all this fake ass rap going around. Listen to the songs on MTV jams. It's all garbage about having sex. Nothin' like the real OG rappers who actually did what they rapped about (DMX for example, stays gangster).

And yea I guess it is actually Korn, but I couldn't tell you if they recreated it or got permission from korn to use it. Haven't looked into it.

There is definitely great hip hop around, but apart from classical music it's the biggest musical industry out there and it's gone to shit like nothing else...Even the most clichéd mess dubstep has to offer is less cliché and more musically interesting than 99% of the hip-hop that gets consumed (outlandish sweeping generalisation, but if anyone objects I'd be up for a shit-off to find out).

I have a bit of a love affair with the contemporary hiphop that actually values substance over style. Specially Sage Francis.

Hip-hop is as outdated and embarrassing as cock rock was in the nineties, yet the (mainly) white music media is too full of shame at its own institutionalised racism and bourgeois post-colonial guilt to admit it.

Wouldn't say hip-hop per se is outdated and embarrassing. Certainly not to the extent that cockrock was at birth let alone in the 90s. The quality:shite ratio is piss-poor though, fersure. The quality:shite ratio of cockrock is 100% and all in one direction though :D

There's good and bad in all genres... other than cockrock ;)

Cockrock gets away with it because it inherently takes enough piss out of its image to pass off as ironic and of some value.

Commercial hip hop takes itself too seriously to get away with this IMO. Even Eminem doesn't take the piss out of himself, he just takes the piss out of other people. So yah...Bad hip hop is baaaad. Bad cock rock is just lulz.

Bad is bad irony or no, I'd say. Definitely agree that bad hip-hop has serious self-seriousness issues which possibly makes it more execrable overall though. I suppose even I can watch a cockrock vid on mute and get a giggle out of it whereas bad hip-hop inevitably has equally as bad vids. Half a point to cockrock then... Perhaps... Ish... Still not with the sound up though :|
