I am not a doctor or anything, but doesnt the combination of dexedrine and xanax counteract each other? Why would you take a stimulant and at the same time take a benzo? Maybe there is a reason, but I was just curious.
not really because xanax affects the neurotransmitter GABA, and dexedrine affects the neurotransmitters dopamine, norepinephrine and to a lesser extent, serotonin.
some people will take adderall with xanax so they get the high/buzz from the adderall, while the xanax prevents any tremors or anxiety the amphetamine might cause.
now i take xanax for sleep and have been since 2000, 5 years before i started taking the dexedrine.
i take 3 10mg. tabs of immediate release dexedrine around noon and then i take my xanax at bedtime.
dexedrine is less likely to cause anxiety and tremors because it affects dopamine more than it affects norepinephrine. and because i have ADD, the dexedrine actually calms me down...well it calms my racing thoughts down so i am able to complete a task without getting distracted and finish a task before going onto another.
it also helps me drive....without the dexedrine, i am looking for a dopamine rush and driving fast always helps, but the bad part is the parking tickets. i have had at least 3 speeding tickets, but because my lawyer tells the judge i have ADD and forgot to take my meds, it gets thrown out of court.
dexedrine doesn't affect my sleeping patterns at all either...i have always had sleeping problems since i was a teen and xanax is the only thing that works that doesn't make me more depressed...such as Valium, Ristoril, Ambien, etc.
