I have mentioned it before and I will say it again: Benzo's should be treated like your average household painkiller (tylenol or whatnot). Taken on an as needed basis. If you find you are needing them every day, then you go to your doctor to find a long term solution to the underlying problem.
I can understand people getting hooked on benzos from years ago, but in the age of SSRIs and SNRIs which are designed to be taken long term, I don't think daily use of benzos is a very good idea for anyone, even those who have legitimate medical causes.
For example I suffer from anxiety. I always have valium handy, but I only use it occasionally (once a week to once a month) when I really need it. I use other methods of coping day to day. I tried effexor, it sucked. I quit cold turkey, it sucked. So I decided to hit the gym and change my eating habits, which helped me in the past. When I see a psychiatrist in a couple of months I will decide then what the best course of action is. Anti-depressant w/d are no joke either, but at least they are designed for long term use.
I am sure some people need benzo's, as nothing else will work for them. But those people are probably a very small minority. For the vast majority of people, stay the hell away from daily benzo use if you can. (or for that matter daily use of any drug. I just flushed 500mg of IR Oxy down the toilet because I kept getting cravings to take them for the high. Having experienced withdrawal from effexor, I never, ever want to be addicted to another drug again. I don't haver personal experience, but there are enough hardcore drug addicts on this site who say benzos are the worst W/D ever that I will take their word. When someone says heroin W/D is a walk in the park compared to benzos, that's enough for me.
