Vyvanse and Tramadol Interaction?

I was wondering whether it would be safe to take 200mg of Tramadol after taking 70mg of Vyvanse about 7 hours prior. I have a decent tolerance to Vyvanse, but has not used opiates for a good 4-6 months. I have read mixed opinions concerning any potential interactions the drugs may have, but have not found a clear cut answer. Any feedback from anyone knowledgeable about this topic would be appreciated!

I personally don't feel comfortable giving you the okay (though I would very much assume you'd be fine), however these two definitely interact making you more susceptible to serotonin syndrome (pretty unlikely) and seizures (not as unlikely). However many have combined the two with no issues.

Oh and drop the "fish", that type of stuff isn't allowed on BL, just say "I". Welcome to bluelight :)

Thanks for the reply. So, taking any amount of Tramadol would be considered unsafe? And, if so, how much time would have to elapse before it would be safe to take it?

The combo isn't inherently dangerous as long as the doses are kept low, and I've seen the two prescribed together (with dose restrictions of course). The half-life for vyvanse is quite long, 9 hours to be precise (though I keep seeing the elimination half-life as 1 hour, not sure what that means). So essentially, it would be around 5 half-lives before it's roughly out of your system, which would be 45 hours.

Now obviously you don't have to wait til it's completely out of your system and I'm almost positive you can take the tramadol now and be fine, I just personally don't give the okay when dealing with risky combos even if the risk is low, since this is a harm reduction forum and I don't want people coming back explaining how my advice caused injury... but I'm sure you will get responses saying your in the clear. When mixing the two, just keep the doses conservative, don't eat more than 300mgs of tramadol and keep the vyvanse dose below 50mgs if you can. As of now, you have roughly 40mgs of vyvanse in your system in case your curious.

You can calculate how much of a drug is in your system by it's half life, which can be found through google. In this case it's 9 hours. So every nine hours half of the drug is removed from your body. For example, at 9 hours you have 35mgs, at 18 hours you have 17.5mgs, at 36 hours you have ~9mgs etc...

Okay, appreciate the clear explanation. The only other possible concern I have is that I taken 70mg of Vyvanse over the past three days (including today) after a week break, so does that mean that some of the Vyvanse I have taken over the previous two days are still in my system as well? And, if so, I would assume that it would increase any possible risk of the combination.

Good question, I would think that it would build up in your system but when you think about it, people who have taken vyvanse daily for years won't have the drug build in their system to the point that it takes months until they can pass a piss test. I think fat solubility is a major factor, but don't quote me on that. Unfortunately, I don't have an answer as I've never really worried about drug build-up. If I had to guess, I would assume you'd be fine... being that some people take stimulants for long periods of time and can still take small amount of drugs that would be contraindicated with little issue. Also, what's important to keep in mind is that the duration of actual effects matters as much as how long it takes to remove a drug from your body.

amphetamine has a half-life of about 12 hours. It takes five half-lives for it to exit the body completely. You do the math. There is a risk of hypertension and serotonin syndrome I wouldn't combine the two.

i combine the two pretty frequently and i've never had any problems, but i seem to be in the minority, as a lot of people have experienced negative effects with that combo and i rarely ever see anyone saying it's okay. hope you find a safe medium and enjoy yourself.
