it's not about them looking different, what can't you comprehend? it's that an extremely large portion of all the trouble in Cronulla beaches comes from Middle Eastern youths, they want to stop that trouble because they've had enough. To stop the trouble, you stop the gangs coming. I think yesterday was a clear indication that if you want to goto the beach and cause trouble, Cronulla is definately not for you.

Fresh threats of beach violence
December 12, 2005 The Australian

NSW Police are assessing the possibility of fresh violence at Cronulla after new text messages urging more unrest in the Sydney beachside suburb began circulating.

Assistant Police Commissioner Mark Goodwin today said police were aware of fresh text messages urging violence next weekend.

He said a planning operations team was busy assessing the threat.

"Let me give you assurance that risk assessments are being conducted on all intelligence that we are receiving," Mr Goodwin said.

"We will not tolerate or stand for the retribution attacks on suburbs or people or property."

More than 5000 people yesterday gathered at North Cronulla beach where drunken mobs within the crowd yelled racist chants and chased down and bashed people of Middle Eastern appearance.

The violence was an apparent revenge attack for two incidents in the previous week, including the bashing of two lifeguards at the beach.

Thirty-one people, including two ambulance officers and six police officers, were injured.

Mr Goodwin today urged parents to dissuade their children from taking part in any further unrest.

"How a parent would allow a child of 15 or 16 to attend the areas and participate in that kind of behaviour is beyond me," he said.

Mr Goodwin said 14 men, aged 18 to 40, and two male youths had been arrested in relation to the violence and were so far facing 41 charges.

Six of those arrested are from Cronulla, a further three are from the Sutherland Shire, six are from Sydney's south or southwest and one is from Bondi Junction.

Mr Goodwin said he was confident of more arrests in the coming days.

"I am confident this behaviour will be shut down," he said.
