Original smash was superb for its time.
Mele was the peak of 2D gaming existance (yes smash is a 2D game)
Brawl is an ok game if you take it at face value, but as far as the franchise is concerned its an atrocity that can be ranked up there with WWII.
First of all any real competitave smash player you talk to will tell you that the only way to play is 1v1, 4 stock, no item games. Anything else is basicly "just for kicks". Brawl has taken the game in a totally different direction.
Brawl has dramaticly slowed down gameplay, and added in new things that detract from real play, like smashballs. That and they nerfed some of the most popular charicters from mele so hard that they're nigh unplayable; shiek, falco and samus to name a few. Some of the new characters are cool, and fill in where some of the old ones once were, but its just not the same. The spirit of the game is gone and nearly all of its hardcore fans have left it. This is coming from someone who played mele pretty regularly for a few years went to tournaments and did pretty well.
/end rant
So where was I?? Oh yea, Brawl. Decent game, but extremely diappointing. Guess my expectations were to high
