Original smash was superb for its time.

Mele was the peak of 2D gaming existance (yes smash is a 2D game)

Brawl is an ok game if you take it at face value, but as far as the franchise is concerned its an atrocity that can be ranked up there with WWII.

First of all any real competitave smash player you talk to will tell you that the only way to play is 1v1, 4 stock, no item games. Anything else is basicly "just for kicks". Brawl has taken the game in a totally different direction.

Brawl has dramaticly slowed down gameplay, and added in new things that detract from real play, like smashballs. That and they nerfed some of the most popular charicters from mele so hard that they're nigh unplayable; shiek, falco and samus to name a few. Some of the new characters are cool, and fill in where some of the old ones once were, but its just not the same. The spirit of the game is gone and nearly all of its hardcore fans have left it. This is coming from someone who played mele pretty regularly for a few years went to tournaments and did pretty well.

/end rant

So where was I?? Oh yea, Brawl. Decent game, but extremely diappointing. Guess my expectations were to high :(

huh. is the game really slower than the rest? I should try playing it sober.

i agree it's a step back for the series, but it's still a wonderful play.

with the items on, though, it's absolutely disgusting. noise, flashing colors, and clutter everywhere. it's like being beaten to death with a pinata.

For someone who has been to over 20 melee tourneys i can tell you this game is a letdown in everyway.and melee a button-masher?never.imo the deepest fighter ever.

As much as I like mele more than brawl no one likes to play mele anymore so I play brawl now.

Many of my close friends are gamers and a lot of the time we end up breaking out the Smash. I still play on a gamecube controller and my favorite heroes are diddy kong, ike and wolf.

We always play 4 stock, no items. My least favorite heroes to play against are probably pikachu, zero suit, and in 4 man free for alls snake is a such a hoe with all his grenades and shit.

I liked Samus in the N64 version.... its been years since I played that game though. I remember one time I tried to go back and play it and everything seemed like it was in slow motion, I didn't like it.

Played some 1v1s the other night against a friend of mine who is pretty good. We played a lot of matchups but I think my new least favorite 1v1 opponent is Bowser. He is almost immovable and gets up to like 200% before I can kill him if I go a fast character, which is the best way to counter him. But if he gets a grapple on you he fucking flys halfway across the map and bodyslams you into the ground, which is hella cheap cause he can just chill by the edges and play for a grapple then fly off and kill both players, but his opponent dies first so unless youre up on him by 1 stock he can always revert to that strategy and kill you first. Oh and he hits like a truck.

The best counter might be a character like marth or ike with hard hits and long range attacks, even though he is pretty vulnerable to fast characters.
