Fri. 21 Jan, 2011 at 5:00pm - Mon. 24 Jan, 2011 at 8:00pm
Beaufort, VIC 3373

2011 promises to be another amazing long weekend with a lineup that we believe to be our best ever. Diversity will once again abound with some of the most talented DJ’s, producers and bands from across the globe and Australia converging on Western Victoria.

Soul expanding workshops, art, performances, delectable food and activities will flood your weekend and as always there will be friends to reunite with and meet for the first time.

Keep an eye on the website for more announcements and info in the weeks to come

Announced so far:

Shpongle.jpg

After months of tough negotiations we are finally pleased to announce Shpongle have agreed to extend their stay in Australia to perform live at Rainbow Serpent Festival 2011.

The full ten-piece ensemble will include founding members Simon Posford and Raja Ram, together with live vocals, cello, drums, keyboards and ethnic and Eastern instruments that have helped to forge their fluid, evocative sound. From pure electronic beginnings of their early releases, Shpongle has evolved into a full live experience, crossing over into jamband and world music headspaces.

With their Melbourne show at the Forum Theatre sold out and the Sydney show selling fast we can’t express how fortunate we are to receive one more opportunity to experience Shpongle Live in Australia.

Mathew Jonson really is one of a kind.

He’s developed one of the most distinctive voices in electronic dance music: when you hear one of Jonson’s tracks, you almost immediately know it’s his.

His music offers a rare fusion of populist intensities and nuanced musicality, with a keen understanding for the needs of the dancefloor and the universal laws of house and techno.

Mat’s standards for sounds and presentation are exacting. Both on stage and in the studio, Jonson’s fealty to analogue equipment and real-time play serves as a standard-bearer for a kind of electronic music that goes way beyond the drag ‘n’ drop world of digital composition.

Last time he was with us in 2009 he was so hot he set a speaker on fire. So armed with a truck full of fire extinguishers we welcome Mathew back for Rainbow 2011.
atmos.jpg

Tomasz is without question one of the most successful producers in hypnotic and atmospheric trance in the world. Under this trademark, Atmos had released three albums, loads of singles and has countless appearances on compilations.

More importantly, his music has been embraced, played and loved by such a broad spectra of people, ranging from the top 10 DJ’s to aspiring bedroom DJ’s all over the world.

He has toured all parts of the globe, to every possible kind of event for well over 12 years now and with great success.

Last year we were rapt to have him perform at the Rainbow Serpent launch party, but to be honest there nothing like experiencing the magic of Tomasz’s music outdoors so we simply had to ask him back for Rainbow 2011.
vibesquad.jpg

VibeSquaD, aka Aaron Holstein, is Colorado’s most beloved bass music producer/performer/innovator. His trained musical background contribute to his unique take on bass music, which carries him around the country playing packed clubs coast to coast.

Since VibeSquaD’s inception in 2007, he has released three full-length albums, two previous EP’s, as well as remixes and singles for Interchill, Multi Music and Proboscis. The New Creatures EP is his next release, showcasing his top-notch production skills and originality over the course of six tracks. The EP is charged with the energy and positivity that has come to define VibeSquaD’s signature sound and vibrant stage persona.

We’ve been after Aaron for a few years now and are glad to say he will finally be making his Rainbow debut in 2011.

fatali.jpg

Eitan Carmi, better known as Fatali, is regarded one of Israel's most talented exports. Over the years, Fatali has developed an original & unique sound - fresh and powerful, ranging from deep progressive trance to the more “full on” sound yet his music always maintains stunning melodic progressions and is perfectly synchronized for the dance floor. Having released a numerous albums, Fatali is constantly touring the globe, performing extensively all year round and brings an outstanding & energetic live act that consistently delivers.

Fatali will be making his Rainbow debut next January and we are exceptionally pleased to have him on board.

perfectstranger.jpg

A perennial favorite on the Australian dance floors, Rainbow serpent welcomes back an artist that has become like everyone’s favorite uncle. Perfect Stranger is Yuli Fershtat, born 1970 also well known under the guise of BLT.

In October 2008 Perfect Stranger released his highly acclaimed “Free Cloud” album on Iboga Records, where he presented his hybrid style of Progressive Psy Trance melted in Techno grooves and Minimal patterns. This album also produced a best seller track “Easy” that still can be found on top 100 Techno charts on Beatport, and was supported by many leading Crossover DJ’s such as Tocadisco and D-nox.

timhealey.jpg

Tim Healey is a freak amongst DJs. Simultaneously pursuing an intense tour schedule while producing from his Brighton studio and running his labels: Giant Pussy and Surfer Rosa Records.

His energetic sets are a mash-up of ghetto-house, electro and quality club-sounds, best summarised by DJ MAG: “Tim Healey blows the speakers apart with his trashed out sound, the music is as cutting edge as it can be”. He has rocked festivals across the globe, having repeatedly toured Europe, Asia, the US, Australia. He's played Glastonbury and Reading festivals, Fuji Rock, Burning Man. He's supported bands like the Prodigy, and is no stranger to crowds of up to 1 million.

Last time Tim played at Rainbow it was as one half of legendary outfit Quirk. It’s been a long while between drinks but we welcome Tim back to Rainbow for 2011.

khainz.jpg

Well-known for his cutting edge, innovative production skills, Khainz (Simon Schwendener) hails from Lucerne, Switzerland. His journey through electronic music began in the early 90's, at the age of 14, when he spun Vinyl in his brother’s room. By 1999, Simon was playing almost every weekend in clubs, open air events and festivals. During that year he moved a step further and began to write and produce his own music.

Always trying to bring something fresh and unique trough his sound, Khainz has released numerous singles through leading international labels. These include: DNOX’s Sprout Music, SAS, headed by John Acquaviva, Absurd, Autist, Kumquat Tunes, Flow Vinyl, Blue Tunes, Plusquam, Echoes, Iboga, Blue Tunes, and many more.

quivver.jpg

John Graham, creates music that is innovative and heartfelt reflecting upon real his life experiences. He is best known as founding member and producer of Quivver, though most of the music John produces quickly becomes in high demand by many DJs.

Over the years he has used a number of other monikers to record under, including Space Manoeuvres, Stoneproof, Skanna and Tilt, each representing a different shade of his sound, which gives you an idea of his scope and versatility.

As a DJ, John has travelled the world and performed every conceivable hot spot from Glastonbury, UK to Pacha, Buenos Aires to Asia to his enviable residency at the notable Twilo, NYC to Avalon, L.A.

Good post toenibbler :)

Yep, major event indeed.

My wife didn't want this to be the first doof we take our daughter to (she's 1 year old Oct 2nd) :( So I had to give my first round code away to a friend. Oh well, hopefully it's still around when she is old enough to actually "experience" it (no, not drugs relation heh, just memory context)

Have to see what doof will be her first, I guess a smaller one so it's less stress on my wife, she worries too easily :P

We're not going next year either - higher priorities in the coming year, but we're marking our calendar for 2012 - however, to say i'm bummed about missing Alex Grey is an understatement.

I wonder if the location next year will be just as windy.

The wind destroyed my tent, so I slept under what felt like a pole-less tarp was still epic though. Am interested to see what Alex Grey will bring to the table, checked out his work, it's pretty awesome.

tarp.jpg

^first camp site my crew had was windy as, few of them lost misc tarp bits haha.
2nd was closer and as a result better ^^

It is the same location as this year, so it will definitely be just as windy. Boo! Try to avoid being in the direct path of the wind turbines if you can! They do look cool flashing pretty coloured lights at night though.

The wind also destroyed my tent and shade screen tent. Total annihilation!

I agree, it was still epic though. Hope they have the can-a-conda again! And get back the Amazing Drumming Monkeys! Alex Grey will bring the best psychedelic visuals to the table. As a massive TOOL fan, I am very aroused... His work is friggin awesome. Will he be doing a spoken word presentation or playing tunes or what? He is a legend.

I can gladly say I purchased my ticket online this morning. Unbelievable about the steep price. With that sort of cost, the artist lineup had better be better than ever. Take a leaf out of the Strawberry Fields lineup. More crazy psy-trance :)

The countdown begins. Am massively Big Kev'd about Rainbow 2011.

I'm sad im going to miss this, big fan of Vibe-squad.. and Alex Grey! Argh! But i'll be Switzerland around that time..

It's so much harder to organize going to this from Perth, lol. I almost went last year with a friend, but funds for plane tickets collapsed at the last minute, although i reckon i'd be up for drive across the Great Australian Bite, that'd be one amazing ride with a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow! :D

May have to hang out for 2012, really wanna checkout Burning Man at some point too.. Have a sweet time everyone! <3

fuck I hope they have a nang a conda, fucking empty nangs everywhere on the dance floor was dangerous!!!!

FUCK YEAH PERFECT STRANGER!!! His set at the '09 rainbow was awesome and I missed his set at this year's maitreya festival due to the weather and being comfortable at camp... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhhgiT7uXrQ (Rainbow 09)

People need to learn to bin their nangs or make interesting art pieces from them.

I do have to admit that I'm guilty of dropping a few on the D floor whilst in the deepest depths of an LSD trip on the Friday night this year, but for the most part, I place them in the recycling or specific nominated bins.

Not looking forward to the wind again next year. The wind turbine locations are specifically picked for high wind areas and I wonder if the organizers even semi factored this in when deciding on the new site. At least the new site isn't littered with broken glass like the old one. So many people got cut up in 08 and 09 due to lazy fucks not putting their glass in the recycling.

Shine On festival is at the same site in coming weeks. I will report back about the wind levels after this event.

I was also very surprised that the can-a-conda wasn't full up by the end of this years festival and by the amount of rubbish (mainly cans) on the ground. As festivals grow they attract more disrespectful douche bags and littering seems to go hand and hand with commercialization. Just look at the likes of Falls or Pyramid rock festival, you are walking on a sea of rubbish in the main arena now days, mainly due to drunken yobbos *sigh*

Wooo pretty damn happy with that 2nd round announcement!! Khainz is going to DESTROY the dancefloor and wouldn't surprise me if the speakers catch on fire :P

I do believe that Matthew Johnson set fire to a speaker back in 08 on the market stage . .
