[VIC] Rainbow Serpent 2011 (21 Jan - 24 Jan)

That's a pretty sweet article captured the hippie culture well particularly this quote :p

"They might be a little bit dirty and scruffy … some of them stink because they don't wash for days. But they'll come into town and dive in the pool and that'll do them for a few more days."

Fatastic :p

On another note though, would happily donate if they have any donation drive for Beaufort :) and I'm sure a lot of other people will aswell.

Site Conditions Update. Sun 16 Jan.

The weekend has thankfully been kind weather wise and we have seen the site slowly beginning to drain and dry out.

We are still in the process of repairing access and are confident that another few days of sunny weather should see the ground stabilise and allow for the re-introduction of heavy machinery to bring in the stages and other equipment.

This still leaves us considerably behind schedule with only a matter of days to construct all the stages, repair the roads, bring in the market stalls and a host of other work.

While we are very hopeful that Rainbow can commence on Friday as timetabled we need every minute of every remaining day to ensure safety on site and to catch up with construction as much as possible.

Consequently we have decided on the following:

* Gates will now open Friday 21st January at 8am. There is no public access to the site at any time prior to this. If you are travelling long distances please investigate other places to stay in the area. Please be respectful of the fact that a lot of the Pyrenees Shire has been adversely affected by flooding when you are choosing where to stay.

* There will be a donation point at the info tent raising funds for Queensland and the surrounding flood affected communities. Please visit and be generous, this is our opportunity to show our extended community how much we care.

* If you are a volunteer or worker due on the site in the coming week, please check with your coordinator or relevant director BEFORE leaving for the site.

Once again we appreciate your patience and understanding and we will continue to provide you updates throughout the week as necessary.

driving down from sydney.

anyone know if there are cops who will search cars on the way in?

I read a post from a friend's blog about how she's recently been bitten by loads of mozzies. It got me thinking about the RSF site... would mozzies be an issue there if its' still a little waterlogged in places? If so, get some bushman's with 80% DEET. Also, get some tiger balm if you do get bitten- i've found that it takes the sting away almost immediately and helps with healing.

If there are wind turbines nearby, it may keep mozzies away. I"ve never had any problems with mozzies at RSF, but conditions may be different this time?

They were out of control at strawberry fields although that was near a river but I expect the same at rsf.

Unfortunately where there is water there will be mosquitos as that's what they breed in and they love dorment water.

I find if its windy then the mosquitos are a bit scarcer but once the wind stops they make up for it.

Like the tiger balm idea so might have to get some of that before I go

I'd say assume there will be lots of mozzies. I can't remember seeing any the last 2 years i've been....but this year is a completely different story.

Like others have said, it generally is rather windy up at the site which does help keep them away.

WOOO so close!! 2 more days of work + 1 day to pack and it's GO TIME!!!

Are we having a bluelighters meet there like in previous years? Maybe we could distinguish ourselves fom other tents somehow, maybe soak them in a virgins blood or something. Maybe not so dramatic but you get the idea

I'll be standing next to the tripper with dreads.

If that helps....lol

Maybe we should wear a shirt/singlet with BL written on it

there was a note up on notice board last yr, i recommend checkin for that.
Not sure who put it up last yr (as i wasnt active enough to check it).

I strongly recommend the products from this company, the wrist bands work really well, and the new patches work a treat too.
