Vendors, suppliers and Bluelight

it was reported on the hive!! THAT I did not know. 8o

That pulls up SO many hypothetical questions (lets say it had continued running):

  • Would it's reputation mean that mephedrone would have been crushed? I.e by suggesting it was dangerous?
  • or would it have sped up the effective high production state of mephedrone sales?
  • or would it have produced even better/more suitable chemicals that are fundamentally less dangerous.

I'm totally agasp that mephedrone was a hive creation. In fact I am maybe evening remembering some of the beta-ketone posts. Thats mad.

I guess when things become electronic - there really is no freedom of speech. You can call your colleage an idiot to their face but can't email them otherwise you get fired for bullying (extreme example). I guess today these forums just aren't possible (ISPs wont host such sites). I can only predict there are extremely private groups with info kept locally on extremely secure servers with invitations only to people who have met face-face. ?

My take is that people should consider the consequences of posting information publicly a lot of discussion cannot now be open because some lazy vendor will run off with the information and cause trouble with it. the days of being able to openly discuss interesting materials and their pharmacology have gone for good, this is sad but inevitable. There are a lot of knowledgeable posters who self censor what they post because they are aware of the consequences of the information being abused.

Vendors seem to use wikipedia as their primary source of information, wikipedia is fed by bluelight and other forums. Some vendors will have the patience to figure it all out from primary literature, they are the exception. If someone spends the time to figure it all out from the literature then the chances are they will be much more responsible with it.

Bluelight has recently been heavily abused recently by vendors and their shills and lackeys to hype products of dubious provenance and variable content. there is no worthwhile HR from this as no one even knows what is in the products.

Well, what I've seen in ADD recently are threads dedicated almost exclusively to drugs with "amphetamine core". I'm myself sick and tired of it as nothing good comes off plain amphetamine and nothing good is going to come off amphetamine/methcathinone analogs that can be still legal.

It's people's choice to buy shit. Nobody will convince me that some mephedrone idea came from some forum and that's why there were so many people in my country keen on buying it because they didn't have access to stimulants like cocaine or methamphetamine. All that was done was actually advertising mephedrone as a substitute for cocaine/MDMA which it isn't. And the fault lies mostly in media that made numerous materials with lies that got into the main news programs.

I say why diacetylmorphine aka heroin if there is dipropanoylmorphine or dibenzoylmorphine, or dinicotinoylmorphine... Now I'd like to see how those drugs make their way onto the street (I don't mean vendors as they're illegal anyway but anyone with chemistry knowledge is aware of that some precursors are more controlled and some are less controlled...). I see no reason why ADD should be hidden or closed for some users. But I do see reasons to stop making threads with no text inside but an image of some chemical and a question mark. For some it's obvious chemicals in such threads are worth nothing but maybe some randomly just take a look at a structure and their friend-chemist gets an idea.

We could really talk about some advanced stuff like "binding sites of ... complex" instead of looking at always the same structures where bromine is in place of chlorine or something similar...
 
phener's right... if we don't allow discussion of this sort here, it will get discussed somewhere else where there is a possibility (perhaps a probability) that the posters there are less informed in this area. either way vendors will probably still see it.

also, i'm okay with threads that just post a structure and a question mark. i know its kind of frowned upon though. if some vendors synths some unknown chemical like that and then some dipshit buys it from somewhere and has health problems as a result... that sucks, but eh. i feel its better than the alternative.

its better for the intelligent among us to steer the conversation into a more universally beneficial direction than to just cut off the conversation altogether.
 
phener - early you stated that they would have avoided para-methyl-methcathinone because of it's relationship to the 'hideously neurotoxic" para-methyl-amphetamine.

para-methyl-amphetamine as far as I can tell isn't all that neurotoxic, no more than amphetamine anyway. I think you're confusing it with PMA, para-methoxy-amphetamine, which is dangerous because of it's MAOI properties, which should actually reduce it's neurotoxicity, though.
 
You would think that would be reason enough not to have made methedrone. I don't know how toxic it is, but the similarity to PMA is pretty obvious. I kinda dought anyone here suggested it, but it's out there. If that isn't bad enough they gave it a name so similar to mephedrone it's sure to cause confusion.
 
mephedrone originated in the hive discussion? aw man RIP hive. I wish i had the insider info to post something mindblowing. This has been an interesting read, i havent read everything but I will be back with a better post.
 
I would suspect methedrone to follow on the market as of mephedrone delegalization (this was sold in some products even in "funshops") but instead almost every day I hear about an overdose from those products. So after mephedrone delegalization they probably put a lot of piperazine derivatives inside in various combinations. I haven't seen piperazine derivatives discussed as everyone here knows there's no future there like it might be some substitute even to amphetamine. Anyway black market didn't go with mephedrone here in Poland, actually they started selling methamphetamine and they do very well because it's naturally less expensive than cocaine and many cocaine users even switched.

Well, I see that RC vendors took on some really chemicals unavailable before like 1-[(1R)-4,5,6-trimethoxy-2,3-dihydro-1H-inden-1-yl]methanamine aka Jimscaline (forgive my love for full names ;)). Given this, TCB-2, 1-[(7R)-3-bromo-2,5-dimethoxybicyclo[4.2.0]octa-1,3,5-trien-7-yl]methanamine, should present no problem... I know TCB-2 was discussed in a lot of places but I say all reports are fake so far and if anyone synthed TCB-2, he/she doesn't want to talk about it (I wouldn't).

what happened with mephedrone becoming huge and the subsequent fallout was never inevitable, the media made it happen. The ACMD pointed out the link between reporting and sharply rising demand in it's report on the cathinones.
I think the whole thing serves as a stark example of why hyperbole, baseless or misinformed speculation, factual inaccuracy, intellectual dishonesty etc. shouldn't be part of any prominent drug discussion.

a little off topic but where? I was on the hive from basically beginning to end and I dont remember this. I remember forays into beta-ketones but not mephedrone. Do you have a post #? I have 1998 to 2004 on hard drive....

Well Hams column doesnt quite answer my question. I was a Mod at the hive up to that time and I don't remember mephedrone being amongst the BKs that were being discussed. But, that was also about the time I got busted and was removed so to speak so I could be off.....
