i just did a report in school on Ecstasy and took the same exact angle on it as that program did. i used all the same studies and scientists. i saw that show and thought someone was reading my essay. guess what grade i got on the essay?...........an "F" talk about a biased teacher...she tried telling me that i was saying that MDMA should be legal. i didnt say that; i just stated facts about bad science and flawed studies thgat the government uses to justify MDMA being "lethal" at one dose. BITCH

bummer man. When I was a freshman in highskool I did a report that was arguing for the legalization of ecstasy. I hadn't even tried it at this point but I was fascinated and put together as much research as I could. It wasnt a great essay by any means, but I ended up getting a B.

sorry to hear your teacher is so ignorant.

this was a great report... non biased and talked about flawed testing... good job peter jennings

I watched it and totally loved it. It was fairly honest and I loved the way they handled the issue of the government's war on drugs. It was a little fuel to show some of those that think E is the most awful thing, that we really do know what we are doing. I recorded it, but I do not know how to get it online :( SORRY!!

I thought the special was great. ABC did a good job of giving all opinions on the drug.

Thoughts...

They didn't challenge the NIDA drone when he said ecstasy elevates body temperature. It normally does NOT. If you have a significant increase in body temp you should treat it, not regard it as a normal effect. (What's significant? Dunno...I'd worry about more than a degree I think.)

Was it unbiased? I don't think it was. I think we won, hands down. They barely even mentioned the problems that can result from use such anxiety and addiction and didn't even adress the very real possibility that some users at high doses are in fact suffering some neurotoxicity. This was a tremendously charitable, almost outright pro-ecstasy show.

It's likely to get some protests, so if you have the time and the inclination, you might want to write to ABC/your local station in support/praise of the show. (Try not to sound too partisan, eh? ;-)

In terms of the bigger picture, this is the turning of the tide. Once popular media 'gets it', the debate is largely over. From the halls of academia to the street corners, we are winning.

Somebody must be encoding this show; with any luck it will show up on the P2P networks like gnutella in the near future.

You should get a copy of the report Peter Jennings did, and distribute one to your teacher. ;)

That was an amazing special! I was blown away with the honest protrail of the drug they showed. Interestingly enough that enitre special was pretty much my ENTIRE speech which I did in my Speech class last semester, it's nice to see my research on the topic be justified again to me :)

My favorite comment that was made went like this:

"I have never heard anybody say to me methamphetamine improved my life. I know people who like to use cocaine, but I have never heard anybody try to claim that cocaine is good for me. But with MDMA, lots of people think that the drug has improved their life."

Take that you DRUG HATING MOTHERFUCKERS!!!!!!!

But something did make me sad too. I haven't taken E (by choice) since May of 2003 (coming up on my 1 year aniversery soon) and after watching this show, and realizing how out of control this drug has become, it saddens me to see that this drug had (and has) so much potential to be a very theraputic and helpful drug to people who really do need it, but that it is so controlled right now b/c of the severity of recreational usage throughout society.

The good news is...I believe they announced a while ago that Ecstasy has been granted to start being tested on human beings again! Go MDMA therapy!!!!

i already thought the same but i dont know where to get a copy.

Email ABC

I wrote and email to ABC, and gave them props for creating such a great show. You know many Americans are gonna flip out and send them some hate mail so maybe everyone here should consider dropping them a line, and congratulating them on a great report. Maybe they will even re show it!

Emailing ABC and a fried who watched it

^^^
I agree we should email ABC and give them props for this report. Kudos to their research team, too, for getting the right people. I haven't seen it yet, but reading about it here, I'm very very interested in owning my own copy. My friend saw, not a drug user, and he was very impressed. I don't know if he'll take X, but at least he got some very useful informatin out of it. He said it was well done and he seems to have received some good information about it. Harm reduction at its best.

As Chrissie mentioned we captured it, chopped out the commercials and encoded it with divx. It's 316mb.

Buzzy

Thanks so much dude, appreciate it.

In case anyone can't download that file, I have a transcript of the report.

It wasn't written by me and I haven't checked over the file yet, so there may be some spelling errors in it.

Appeal it. Take it up with another teacher, and talk about Peter Jenning's credibility, and the fact that the ABC has allowed his program.

Thanks Buzzy and Chrissie. I hadn't checked bluelight in a few days cause I've been busy. Then I pop on and find out that I missed this special on tv!

You saved me there. Gonna watch this tonight and ill post any thoughts tomorrow.

Thanks again

peace

DOWNLOAD SHOW HERE

thanks so much for this; please leave it there for a day or two; only have access to the high-speed university network ports tomorrow (monday);

I just finished watching the docu - thanks for taking the time to publish it online.

I was quite impressed how the point of view wasn't bias.

One thing I would have liked to see was how many studies are performed with RATS and other animals besides Humans. They should have also mentioned how the real risk starts when people mix drugs, and don't take necessary precautions.

But overall, it's good to see a docu on drugs that isn't scared to counter-attack the Government's allegations.

I thought this special was really top notch. I was surprised to see Donahue doing a special on it in 1985, and very surprised at how they tore Ricaurte's studies apart. Citing how a gov't paid scientist could commit such blatant errors (mixing up MDMA eith Meth) blew my mind. Acyually the reporting didn;t blow my mind so much as the mistakes themselves.

I also like the New Scientist mention as well.

I thought the special was really well done, and I'm glad people are starting to look into MDMA with an open mind, and calling out some of the bullshit gov't reportings.

.

You're very right. I don't think it was unbiased at all. It was biased in "our" favor. Yes, they disputed alot of the rumors about E concerning holes in your brain, and one dose fatality, but they didn't explore much into the possible long term effects, or mental health issues related to MDMA abuse.

If the report had been typical of earlier media reports we would all be up here bashing it, but now that it's in our favor we're loving the media outlook. Take a second to look at the report from both standpoints; typical BL standpoint, and anti-drug activist. There are some arguments that can be made in the anti-drug favor, we have just chosen to negelct them.

Good point DEA.
