Unpopular or Uncommon Opinions

fear & loathing in las vegas: the film is better than the book.

i've said it many times before, and i stand by it.

I like the earlier ones. I watched every episode of house of paine for like three years. Diary of a mad black woman, to madea goes to jail. But his new stuff is just regurgitated.

I don't know where to begin with what's wrong with Super Mario Brothers. It is fucking awful.

Hunter S Thompson is not a great writer. I love him. Not because of the quality of his writing. But because of the subject matter. He is a drug icon. A sub-culture figure. No different to gay/lesbian icons that get more attention than they deserve. Or Christian celebrities who are adored by Christians. Hunter is treated like some kind of legend. Like a God. Hunter fanboys, they post pictures of letters written by the doctor as if they're significant documents. These sloppily constructed angry drug-fuelled ramblings; I find them amusing, but they don't deserve much more than that. The cock-sucking worshipping attitude that some people have towards HST - like he's some sort of God - is a little embarrassing.

The Sopranos is kinda dumb. Maybe that's how the culture is, but it's still a lame show. It took me a couple of seasons to realize why the show was so stupid, but I got there eventually.

As a (totally) amateur martial artist I am a big Bruce Lee fan. What he did for martial arts and for Chinese people in general is inestimable.

BUT his movies are all fucking terrible. The only reason they are considered classics is because they introduced martial arts (specifically Asian martial arts) into the mainstream of the western world. That and they showed off the talents and abilities of Bruce Lee which are admittedly amazing. Other than that they suck. I mean the bits of martial philosophy were all well and good. But I could get that by reading his books which are IMO far more entertaining.

I sincerely hope none of the people I train with will see this post. Otherwise my next sparring session might end up with me going to the hospital :o

^did you finish it?

Well I've seen the last season, I don't care enough to watch the entire thing, but I got a good gist of it.

I think you should tell them your uncommon (but pretty right on) opinion to their faces. Why spar if it isn't improving your ability to defend yourself?

Well, I just started The Sopranos and so far I'm really digging the whole "downfall of the American gangster" theme. Care to explain what you mean by "dumb", CD? From what I've seen its well-written/directed/acted/etc.

Get over Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas. He is not a drug icon unless that's how YOU look up to him. And if you think drugs were all he wrote about then refer back to my first sentence.
He had a good eye for the world & was able to describe what he saw very well.

It's both how I see him and how others see him. He's CLEARLY a drug icon. I have read half of his novels. He was a decent writer not a great one. That's all I could be bothered saying.
