Evol has a point...it's just a run of the mill thing...you blew it way out of proportion...now if we were in bumfuck illinois, it'd be a valid concern...but down here, unlikely.

ok smartasses...maybe some of you geniuses who don't live in south florida were not aware of the fact that the city of miami was going to try and not let there be an ultra here next year. so, my seeminlgly pointless question isn't so pointless.

Rave prevention in Florida? That's unheard of!!!! 8) Dealt with it, it happens every year, all over th state, except that in places like Miami, promoters have the cash to stave off the naysayers.

I have a new co-worker who used to live down in Miami and he went to Ultra and new some people who worked for the show. He told me the following:

Due to some major conflicts with the Mayor of Miami about hosting Ultra in Miami there is a chance that the location of Ultra 6 may be non other than sin-city a.k.a. Las Vegas!!!

BUT REMEMBER: this is just speculation and stuff comming out of the rumor mill most likely, and you know how that shit goes. Like someone already said, there is always conflicts surrounding big events like this whether it be money, promotors, government/police, etc. Besides it's WAY too early to know what may or may not happen.

Haven't all the previous Ultras (1-5) been in Miami? If that is indeed the case then I don't see why they can't fight there way to have it there again.

I hope it is here because I WILL BE THERE!!!!!!! I only live 3 hours away and will gladly drive that length to see all that great talent, I had so much fun last year!

christ almighty...every year that comes up that ultra/WMC is gonna move to that shithole in the desert, Las Vegas. You'll get all the kiddies off on a tangent now. If you think Florida has an unfriendly atmosphere to music festivals, wait till you go out west.

I'm not gonna pull rank here, those of you that know me, know where I get my information, but Ultra will have a festival in Miami in March of 2004...

If there's a Vegas Ultra, it will be part of a tour package, which has been planned for awhile now...Ultra NY, Ultra LA, etc...but Ultra Miami will remain.

I NEVER said that it was fact, I was relaying rumored info that I heard.

I highly doubt that Ultra 6 will NOT be in Miami, they've gotten great crowds and it's a HOT SPOT for trance and electronic music in general....so much culture and activity, it's a major city and it pulls in a lot of money with the entertainment industry....but then again don't count your chickens before they hatch, ya know?

Vegas sucks hardcore though, if Ultra did in fact move, it sure as hell wouldn't be in Vegas...as a matter of fact, keep in mind that it was the *city* of Miami that raised a stink about Ultra. Other nearby communities in Dade County may not. If Ultra could not be held in Miami proper, another nearby community would probably pick up the torch...increased tax revenues, permit fees, etc...plus, there's this whole area called "unincorporated Miami-Dade County" which is wide open for use.

ultra is ONE day of the winter music comference. in the electronic dance music industry there have been SERIOUS talks about moving it to las vegas. we'll just have to wait and see. it's not up to coolworld or the promoters, it's up to the people who hold the conference.

Ultra and WMC are not associated technically.

Ultra is run by the fine folks at D'VOX, and Coolworld handles some promotions...they hold it during WMC to make it easier to get the talent gathered. The WMC organization itself has nothing to do with Ultra.

As for WMC moving to vegas, I'd hardly call it serious. Every year, the rumour surfaces that WMC is gonna move to Vegas...it's been a rumour for the past decade almost.

A little known factoid about WMC is that the parties you go to are more than likely not sanctioned by the WMC folks themselves. The record labels, DJs, booking agencies, clubs, and so forth are the ones throwing the parties, they kinda grew up around the original WMC...WMC sanctioned parties are rare...maybe one a day if that.

The WMC itself could move, but it wouldn't make a damn bit of difference. The parties would still go on, and the WMC itself would fade away...seriously, nobody goes to the WMC itself anymore. Even the conference part is supplanted by gear manufacturers, lables, and booking agencies holding free how-tos, discussions, and so forth.
To put it bluntly, if you buy a WMC badge, you're wasting your money. The WMC itself stays in Miami since it knows it's the only chance of survival it has. It leaves, the parties stay, the WMC dies....

Besides, Miami is used to the WMC crowd now...Vegas'd be like "what?" and there'd be a huge to-do about it...

Think about it...Miami has:

-the best clubs in the country (Space 34, crobar, level, maze, nerve, crobar downtown <---ask me about that one)

-the weather, this year was an exception, but it's normally low 80s, little humidity, ocean breezes.

-cheap flights from Europe...very important

-cheap flights from most US points of origin

-cheap flights from South America

-cheap other things from South America

-18 years experience with WMC, the authorities know how to handle it.

-Downtown Miami clubs have a 24 hour operating license...Space 34 practically did not shut down for five days.

-a younger population base...the old crusty Jews largely fled to Fort Lauderdale 10 years ago.

What does Vegas have? Brothels and gambling....and in Miami, both are tolerated...gambling boats, and escort services being the local equivalent.

The flap about Ultra last year was the Miami mayor grandstanding for a minority voting segment...the issue has been settled.

I'm prepared to draw diagrams if necessary.

Well, the crobar folk bought the old Space building.

For those of you not in the Miami loop, Club Space moved a block west of where it once was, leaving a vacant warehouse...crobar bought it.

Daaaammmnnnn! I'm glad I saw this thread. This is kinda on short notice, I don't know if I can get something planned in 9 months.

tell me is anybody as dissapointed about the ultra cd they brought out last month? I was hoping they would have live recordings from the party itself, not just a compilaton of tracks i've heard many times before. i really want to hear Christopher lawrence's set again.

Hey can someone explain these problems with Ultra 5 to me? I was there and thought it went much more smoothly then 3 or 4 with the small exception of them blocking the gates to the main stage for awhile. Just the fact that it took 5 seconds to get in instead of almost an hour really impressed me.

just FYI....found out this weekend that ultra's permits were not approved for miami this year so they are looking for a new place, possibly ft. lauderdale. :(
