Hey all, I apologize in advance if the answer to my question is right around here somewhere but I've been searching the threads and couldn't find an appropriate answer. My chinchilla's girlfriend's stepmom wanted to know which pods to buy online, considering the fact that there are many vendors selling many different kinds of pods. I've read that somniferums are illegal and yet certain vendors seem to be carrying them. Other sites don't even name the strain. From what I've read, the best pods are (in order of potency): somniferum, giganthemum (giants), tasmanian purple, burma white, turkish white (aka persian), turkish red, giant whites. From what I understand I want a strain that will keep the thebaine low and the good stuff high. So here goes: if I can't order the somniferums, what kind should I choose from the aforementioned varieties so that my chinchilla's girlfriend's stepmom can make the most "stunning" floral arrangement? Please man, this is not a SWIM sight. I have no idea what you're trying to ask about your chinchilla, you probably shouldn't be feeding it poppy tea though, just not a good idea. Chinchillas require a high quality, hay-based pellet and a constant supply of loose hay to sufficiently meet all of their dietary needs. They also need a lot of exercise, so a 15in diameter wheel should be put in their cages, it's very important that the wheel has solid surfaces, so that the chinchilla's toes do not get caught in the spokes of said wheel. Some hybrid breeds have a decent alkaloid content, or so I've heard. The chinchilla lacks the ability to sweat; therefore, if temperatures get above 25°C (80°F), the chinchilla could get overheated and may suffer from heat stroke. Chinchillas dissipate heat by routing blood to their large ears, so red ears signal overheating.
 
Poppy Seed Tea from Dried Pods.

I have seeds from roughly 200 dried pods that were rather potent. Its roughly a liters worth..

Has anyone ever made a tea from the seeds of their dried pods?

The consensus seems to be that only pods that are busted open when fresh gets the active alkaloids onto the seeds since most of the opium is contained in the pod walls. When they use papaver somniferum for seeds they break them open to get the seeds and that's when they get coated with active alkaloids. Some manufacturer's wash the seeds so you need to find seeds with the alkaloids that were not washed.

If the pods are dried and sold for "decorative" purposes, there is no chance for the alkaloids to get on the seeds so they are worthless, as you seemed to have fund.

I'm resurrecting this thread in hopes of getting a short and simple question answered.

Can anyone give me an approximation of how many grams is in a tablespoon of pods? I used to use poppy tea chronically for years but I've quit for a long time now. I used to be able to judge by how much grounds were in my blender (basically if it covered the blade I was good, lol). Now when I get my pods later this week I'm going to have to grind them all at once and measure my dosage out in tablespoons at a later time.

I think I'm also going to be consuming the grounds. I've done this a couple of times and was never impressed with the effects (I much preferred the tea) but it's not likely that I'll have an opportunity to enjoy the luxury of tea.

I'm also kind of concerned about overshooting my dosage. I was thinking to try and shoot for *roughly* 20 grams but really can't measure. So can anyone give me an approximation of how many grams of grounds might be in a tablespoon?

On an unrelated note, the price of pods is absolutely ridiculous right now.
 
My usual dose is a half cup of grounds. Maybe try less since your tolerance is down.

I wouldn't eat the grounds, I've had similar lackluster experiences. Why can't you make tea? I've always found a way- if you're hiding it from someone, make it in the bathroom, use hot tap water, let it brew in a starbucks cup or something and strain it.

Yeah, there seems to be a shortage which would explain the prices.

Yeah I suppose I COULD make tea. I'm just so used to the concept of cooking it for a while on the stove, I didn't really even think that hot tap water would work. Upon further reflection though I think you're right and it should be fine. And yes the reason is that I have to hide it :\ Thanks for the idea man, tea will be MUCH easier to dose with after having my tolerance drop.

Thanks so much dorkchop. That is precisely the information I was looking for. When I was using for 2 years I was definitely using a lot more than 4 tablespoons, I used to use around 10 - 12 Large pods near the end of my run. It was probably a little over a cup of grounds.

I remember that after taking a week long break it was usually enough time to allow me to get floored from the high, but tolerance seemed to stick around for a while (though it built slowly with poppy tea, for whatever reason).

I've got practically 50 days of clean time under my belt and I think that this will probably have a reasonable effect on my tolerance. I don't expect to have to use as much material to get the same effect as I did in the past. I think that I'll make the tea up using 6 or 7 tablespoons of grounds, then drink half of it and see where it takes me.

Poppy seed weight to volume conversion

Hey all! I've got a ton of seeds left over from my pods but no scale. Does anyone have an approximate weight to volume ration for the seeds- i.e. how many cups of seeds for one dose? Thanks!
 
Apparently they're no good for tea if they're seeds out od dried pods you have obtained. Its the crushing action involved in the indusrial crushing of pods to obtain the seeds that coats the seeds with the alkaloids, seeds from your own pods are only useful for next yrs crop.

I got that bad news after saving shitloads of seeds that I've got no-where to plant the bastards. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news ,,

Yeah seeds that have been obtained from dry pods aren't any good. Commercially harvested seeds often come right out of the fresh pod via a hole drilled in them. When the seeds are emptied out they get coated in the delicious opium. Usually they wash them off but some morphine is still frequently present. Seeds from intact dried pods don't really get a chance to be covered in opium and tend to be weak and/or useless.
 
hey quasi, I think I remember you saying that you live in Q-town? That's just funny cause I live like literally about 5 minutes away down 309.

Anyways, I just wanted to contribute by saying that a lot of you sound like you either have to just eat the grounds straight up or steep and strain em, but I've always personally done a kind of a hybrid by letting em soak for a while, then just throwing in drink mix and downing the crap (lemon or pink lemon has always been the best flavor to cover it up imo, with the right proportions it doesn't taste bad at all, even with a ton of grounds in em). Then you get the advantages of straining but you also don't have to worry about wasting any in the good stuff. At least that's how it seems, it's worked fairly well in my experience. It also gives you some fiber, so it might be a tad easier to fight the war that any opiate user wages in the bathroom. Be warned though friends, any spikey stuff that you swallow may well go all the way through your insides in that form, and if it does...lets just say there will be blood...(well there may be, and bleeding from your anus is never pleasant.)

But on a side note, W T F is with availability and price right now? It's honestly so low it's frightening me a bit, every other place you look they're either sold out or selling for like 2X usual price. I don't like it, not one bit.
 
Hey Uber Penguin, that's pretty cool you live so close. As far as I know, you are the only person on Bluelight who lives THAT close to me. If you get to 50 posts and become a bluelighter PM me... although it doesn't seem you're in a rush having registered a year ago. That's cool though, I mean no offense by it.

Yeah the availability issue has been going on ever since I got clean. I quit on May 30th but continued keeping tabs on the industry. It seemed like most vendors were expecting shipments from the new summer crops but they just never arrived. Some vendors seemed to have enough stock on hand to keep selling (although at a dramatically higher price). Others seemed to be able to get some stock in, but in severely limited quantities. And then there are some vendors who have nothing and have had their dates they expected to be replenished pass time and time again.

I don't really know what the cause of this is. I do know that I never saw anything like this happen during the previous 2 summers when I was hooked. It seemed that I quit at just the right time this summer. If I hadn't quit at such an opportune time I wouldn't have been able to sustain my habit as it were. Ah well, I hope something changes soon.
 
i highly suggest anyone not satisfied with the strength potential of pods add some to your gut about 20 minutes after the poppy tea. not to much though, an amazing potentiator, and it cuts down on the tolerance curve/w'd symptoms significantly in my experience.
 
I have a question about using potentiators like tagamet and grapefruit juice that slows down/stops a certain liver enzyme.

As I understand it, without this enzyme codeine is unable to become active in the body. Would this impact a pod tea session negatively? I realize it potentiates the morphine, but what of the codeine that is also in the pods?

Basically, I'm wondering if it's better to shut down the enzyme and potentiate the morphine, or let the enzyme do its thing so both the codeine and (non-potentiated) morphine alkaloid are active.
 
Hello everyone, I am new to this thread and to bluelight, but have lurked for a long time. I have been on pods for about 2-3 months now and am trying to quit.

I also have a question about potentiators. Do they mess with your tolerance, withdrawal, etc? In other words, if I am trying to taper off pods a week at a time and when I first lower my dose use a potentiator to get close to the same effect and lessen withdrawals and then halfway through the week drop the potentiator since my body may then be used to the actual lessen dose. Would that work? Does the potentiator only make it "feel" more or does it actually make your body think as though it has a stronger dose. I am sorry it this sounds like a strange question. I am not quite sure how to word what I am trying to ask.

I have a question. Has anyone ever gotten really small pods? I know I usually have medium-large, and this time I got smalls so I expected them to be smaller of course. I guess I just didn't realize how truly small the smalls can be! They will still work though, right? I am assuming they are still papaver somniferum, I have just never seen any this small.
