TRIBUTES have been paid to a “promising” marine student whose death may have been caused by ‘legal high’ drugs. South Tyneside College student Andrew Lourie, 18, died on Saturday after being taken to hospital from a flat in Mortimer Road, South Shields.

Police are investigating the possibility that he may have taken an alternative to illegal drugs, and are waiting for the results of toxicology tests. An inquest into his death was opened and adjourned yesterday.

Neighbourhood Inspector Peter Sutton is warning others about the dangers of legal high drugs. He said: “This is a real tragedy, and we’re determined to stop something similar happening again. “These so-called ‘legal high’ drugs are not safe. “They can kill or have a devastating impact on people’s health. “These substances often contain potentially dangerous chemicals and can cause death.

Now, I could be guessing here, but I reckon that there has been more drug incidents since the banning of mephedrone in 2010 than the whole of the ten years before that.

The legal high situation is a mess and has been precipitated by the out-of-date UK drug laws and the ignorance of the buffoons who make them.

Yeah...I hate it too cause it seems like the rc scene has more scrutiny on it now than ever-though I've only really been reading about/using rc's for the last 2 years so idk about the previous years.

I wonder what compound caused this death. :/
