TRIBUTES have been paid to a “promising” marine student whose death may have been caused by ‘legal high’ drugs. South Tyneside College student Andrew Lourie, 18, died on Saturday after being taken to hospital from a flat in Mortimer Road, South Shields.
Police are investigating the possibility that he may have taken an alternative to illegal drugs, and are waiting for the results of toxicology tests. An inquest into his death was opened and adjourned yesterday.
More...Neighbourhood Inspector Peter Sutton is warning others about the dangers of legal high drugs. He said: “This is a real tragedy, and we’re determined to stop something similar happening again. “These so-called ‘legal high’ drugs are not safe. “They can kill or have a devastating impact on people’s health. “These substances often contain potentially dangerous chemicals and can cause death.
