A schoolgirl who died of a cardiac arrest while partying with friends may have taken a dangerous new drug before she collapsed.

Gabrielle Price, 14, might have taken a mixture of ketamine and a new party drug 'meow meow' before she fell ill, according to neighbours.

The 'legal' drug, also known as Mephedrone and MCAT, can be bought over the internet and is billed as a cross between Ecstasy and cocaine.
Gabrielle, known as Gabi and described by friends as 'fun-loving and hyper', had been out with friends all day before attending the party in Brighton, East Sussex.

The brunette, from nearby Worthing, West Sussex, suffered a fatal cardiac arrest after falling ill at around 5.15pm on Saturday.

Ambulances crews were called and battled to save the teenager at the house before transporting her to nearby Sussex County Hospital, but she passed away at 10pm.

A Neighbour, who did not wish to be named, claims Gabrielle had taken ketamine mixed with the new party drug 'meow meow' before she fell ill.

A 39-year-old woman and a 17-year-old man were arrested at the scene on suspicion of drugs offences while pathologist carry out a post-mortem to see if Gabrielle had drugs in her system.

Sussex police Detective Inspector Bill Warner said: 'We have suspicions there were two people supplying drugs but not necessarily to her.

'The post-mortem test will see if her death was drug-related or natural causes.'

Next-door neighbour Anita Cullen witnessed paramedics' frantic attempts to revive Gabrielle.

She said: 'I saw a whole load of blue flashing lights outside. There were four or five paramedics and a couple of ambulances.

'Then they brought someone out of the house on a stretcher

'She was all covered up; you could just see her feet. She didn't look in a good way.'

Della West, headteacher of Davison High School, Brighton, where Gabi was a pupil said: 'She was a popular girl, very quirky, with her own individual sense of style.

'She loved music and was hoping to use her creativity in a future career. She will be sadly missed.'

Former school friend Amber Herriott, 16, said: 'At school she was always really happy and hyper.

'She was the most beautiful angel I knew. I hope she rests in peace.'
Class B drugs include amphetamines and cannabis which was re-classified earlier this year.

Possession of the Class B drugs carries a maximum five year prison term, an unlimited fine or both, while dealing the drugs carries a maximum 14 year jail sentence.

What's the relevance of the stuff about class B drugs? Did I miss something? Nowhere does it mention the legal status of ketamine or mephedrone, I think that's a sneaky bit of misleading information.

RIP.....

(European and African Drugs Discussion)

“This has been a novel about some people who were punished entirely too much for what they did. They wanted to have a good time, but they were like children playing in the street; they could see one after another of them killed — but they continued to play anyhow…

…”These were comrades whom I had; there are no better. They remain in my mind, and the enemy will never be forgiven. The ‘enemy’ was their mistake in playing. Let them play, in some other way. And let them be happy.”

Use of Meph

I have first hand knowledge of this particular drug and the effects it can have, although we cannot know the long term effects as yet. I personally think this drug is the most dangerous. It is easily available, inexpensive and quite addictive. I am not a young person, nor am i a long term user of any drug, myself and my partner merely experiment together, but we have tried this drug together. We loved the effect whilst taking it, but it does have a "speeding" effect and consequently couldnt sleep. My partner seems to be ok except for the tiredness, but i have noticed now that I have really bad chest pains and my heart rate (which is normally fast) is even faster. I read someone elses comments on this web site and like myself experienced the same problems. When I heard this morning about the tragic death of the young girl, i again reiterated my fears to my partner that if this is not made a class A drug soon, many more young people will die. Myself and my partner are in our 40's both work full time and a fairly responsible human beings (I only say fairly as we both like to party together) But I have never know anything take off the way this drug has. Its everywhere! and due to the fact that at the moment its not illegal, no one is hiding their use of it. Oh! and just so everyone knows, because it is illegal to sell for human consumption, the people who sell it are going to get those stickers "Not for human consumption" and put them on the bags they sell, as they think it will cover them against being prosecuted.

I am sorry for this long message, and many will think that i am a hyprocite as i have taken this drug, but it is because i have taken it that i can see the potential dangers it will cause, especially with the younger generation or anyone who has complication with the heart.

The drug you mean swilow?
I can't see how it would make that much difference, but I do agree that it needs to undergo some serious long-term testing which scheduling it would bring about (I'd like to think anyway).

anyone making any negative comments about the information/content of the article needs to remember its written by the Daily Mail, the worst 'newspaper' in the country.. essentially its just a tabloid nowadays that loves to scare the living shit out of its narrow minded right-wing audience..

for an example look at this other peice of 'news' they had on their website along with the mephedrone article

By Daily Mail Reporter

She's currently riding high at the top of the movie charts with huge new release New Moon.

But Kristen Stewart seems to be endorsing a different kind of high with her bikini.

In the pictures, taken in July 2008, the 19-year-old actress is seen aboard a yacht in San Jose, Costa Rica with a tattooed male friend, wearing a white bikini with marijuana leaves printed across the front.

Kristen is no stranger to controversy surrounding the drug, having been pictured allegedly smoking it from a pipe in November last year.

U.S. website TMZ obtained photographs of the actress sat outside her house in LA with a male friend, taking puffs from a water pipe commonly associated with smoking marijuana.

The actress is rumoured to be dating her co-star, British actor Robert Pattinson.

Just last week they were pictured holding hands as they left the Paris leg of their global press tour.

According to a People.com, the couple spent a cosy weekend in New York, after the premiere of the new movie.

The duo started their night at the ultra exclusive Soho House, where they “had a good time,” a source told the website.

It is said they then went to a club called Avenue, where they were spotted 'making out while their bodyguards tried to block prying eyes'.

Twilight: New Moon grossed a staggering $140.7million (£85.1million) on its opening weekend, taking $72.2million (£43.7million) on its first day - the biggest single opening day in Hollywood history.

The movie has already taken more than any installment from the Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings or James Bond franchises ever did.

what a sad excuse for a story, DRUGS! MOVIE YOUR CHILDREN WATCH! BOOBS! :!

I agree with swilow. I would legalise all drugs, but given that that isn't going to happen anytime soon, I shudder at the idea of mephedrone staying as available as it is while all other, safer options are prohibited.

i hate the fact that every paper is implying that it is actual plant food and not just being called plant food as a loophole, going to make the public think people these days are snorting plant fertilizer to get high.

man i've been kit katin on several occasions, mcat has become as common as daily in some is my friends lifes to the point that when u have none, serious depression becomes an issue, my tolerance has risen so quickly i can consume up to 8 grams in one sitting and i've know ppl who had consume much more! drugs like e need to be decriminalized soon, as once mcat is banned at xmas people are going to turn to the more potent alternatives, and many already have, just to say if we havent got the pills we r going to continue to use this shit. WAKE UP GOV
