UH oH, Basic favorite exercise Thread!?

I don't do high weight and my form is good (atg). I do do 20 reps, though. The squat just sucks. I'm sure everyone has that one exercise they dread going to the gym for. Squat is mine. Squat is probably most people's they are just lying because it sounds cool. You all know you love the bench press. Or the ab machine. Probably spend an hour on each every day then go home... :-D

Squats over lat raises every day of the week..... I do love my squats- just not the next day.

Leg day for me today...my legs are finally starting to get huge!!! my squat has doubled in a year

Dude I take back what I said in the "Do you get sore?" thread. If you're not getting sore from that session, I guess you really just won't get sore! And 6000 Cals! Man I struggle to get down 3000 clean (I am basically half your size though!). Good work man. I haven't read too many of your posts, are you BB'ing or are you powerlifting?

Just having fun. I plan to do a bodybuilding comp at some point but I focus on my deadlift max because I enjoy it so much. And yep - not sore at all from that.

wow, I must be really, really into the basics, cuz I'm not even sure here - you mean shrugging by "lat raises", right?

Just got my gym (olympic bench/squat/dl) setup back, and my heavy bag, FUCK I LOVE LIFTING!!! Had a lil hiatus, just started back a few days ago <joke weights just for the first few sessions til form is perfect and I'm feelin the movements more :) >, I think I'm gonna try to set goals to hit half aanallien's weights =D.

did you measure? I always love measuring, shit I need to go do that right now lol so I have a perfect starting measure, I get the balloon effect like crazy in my thighs too

If I hit 600 by the end of the year I'll be pretty happy.

just noticed I said this in februrary. LOL.. I'll be hitting 700 by end of summer and working towards 800 by the end of the year. i love deadlift!

Don't bet on hitting 800 by the end of the year, lol. If you hit (a good) 700, that'll be an enormous accomplishment. 600 is pretty good, but the 100 or 200lbs difference is huge.

my max is going up about 7 lbs/week like clockwork. I'm not saying I'll hit 800 by December but I'll be in the 700s working towards it I'm sure.

Here's my planned next 6 weeks of max effort attempts. At the end of this I'll be at a 700 lb max.

week 1 585x4
week 2 540x7
week 3 620x3
week 4 575x6
week 5 620x4
week 6 595x6
week 7 700x1

deading is awsome. today people stared at me while i repped 405 for 4 and then busted a capillary in my nose on 455. granted i could have done more, but i was supersetting with front and back squats and rows... so yeah haha. but now my back is starting to look like a stealth jet form all the backwork. its fucking great. vtaper is the shit. I am starting to get batwing lats.

even more awsome were the looks on people's faces when they saw my workout drink was a (non diet) mountain dew and i had a pakc of smokes and a bottle of somas next to my keys. I love fucking with people at my gym who are like "yay lifting wieghts for healthy hearts!!! drugs smokes dirnks and soda is bad!!!"

its funny when the biggest guy in the gym lifting the heaviest shit has that laid out, even though i smoke maybe 2 cigs a week and the somas are once a week thing. im an asshole and i love it. hhahahaha.

Fukhed Vtaper is the SHIT!! Just work the delts to round it out a decent amount and really pronounce it.

Aanallein: That is beast as hell, perhaps you should consider competing in a straight DL comp if you can find one. A lot of people say over training hinders progress, with you is this the opposite case or what?

bingalpaws: Fucking heavy bags are the absolute SSHiiizz, whats your heavy bag weigh? speed bags great in combination too, Boxers are notorious for having the most built & well defined shoulders in the sports world & i believe the bags are the main reason but i could be wrong.

Not really. Its the exercise where you take a dumbell in each hand and then do your best impression of the crusifixion. (although I know thats not the best technique). Dunno what else you'd call it appart from lat raise- horizontal raise maybe? Search on google and you can find dozens of vids.

I push myself right to the beginning of overtraining then back off and repeat over and over and over. In this way I think I train my body to train harder, longer, and more frequently. I think the body can adapt to any training stimulus and thus, it can even adapt to overcome overtraining if you go about it in the right way.

think you threw him off when you said "lat" as in latissimus dorsi,

As far as a purely aesthetic approach for vtapering, keep in mind to blast the shit out of your rear delts, most people's rear delts are horribly out of comparison to their front/side, and all 3 front/side/middle will have the good vtaper from all angles (big front/side, w/ small rear, delts won't have a great vtaper from all rear angles, for instance).

I dunno - the type of work I do on it varies so I imagine there's potential there, I mean just doing really hard/short/intense sessions, it's almost like a mini-muscle workout, but I typically do longer (not long by any standards as I'm a fucking cig smoker, but the boxing does help :\ ) sessions to work with my stance/movements and shit. My bag's 85, which I *think* is about normal, but I'm pretty clueless on boxing in general, I've only put on gloves against another person on a few occasions.

aannalien, I would love it if you nail 8, but going from 7 to 8 is going to, obviously, be slower than 6 to 7 was - have you been thinking of how you'll approach stagnation if/when your <obscene> rate of progress starts slowing? And btw, congrats as usual, you're strong as an ox kid!!

No, I wish I did becuase I had chicken legs when I started a little over a year ago...

I got a question for all you deadlifters...

When you deadlift, does the bar ever hit your balls or dick when you complete the rep? For some reason, everytime i execute a repetition, the bar always grazes my balls:|

tuck it back!

as for all this "over training" shit i have VERY rarely seen people over train. I do however see many many people UNDERTRAIN, with the pretension of saying it is something like "HIIT dude!!! YOURE NOT SUPPOSED TO KILL YOURSELF" the basis of HIIT you doofus is you do HEAVY weight.

people shouldn't stand around and hold conversations, they should be working hard. When I go in i think of it like a paycheck, the harder i work, the better results i get. I just try to rest equally.

i dont do "high volume" or "high intensity" i do whatever makes the muscle im working hurt.

HIIT - high intensity interval training.. that's a type of cardio where you basically do bursts of high intensity then you chill out then you hit it again hard..

HIT - high intensity training.. that's a type of weight training. the opposite would be High Volume training. HIT is basically 1 warmup set and 1 working set on a muscle with extreme CNS intensity - usually on some kind of machine with a spoter to take your muscle to its absolute limit. then you are done. the theory is that you can train in such a way as to get maximum growth with minimum required rest between training so you can train with higher frequency and get more growth cycles/month.

So none of you pros have problems with the barbell grazing your ball bag when finishing a deadlift?
