Summary:
Subject intended to experience Syrian Rue-Mimosa Hostilis.
Subject was well experienced in many other psychedelics.
Subject was unguided and failed to fully research MAOI/Tyramine interaction potential (twit!). Trip was preceded by 12 hour fast, except for 2 large alcoholic coctails containing vermouth (which some sources indicate contains tyramine) ingested between T minus 4:00 to T minus 2:00.
00:00 Syrian Rue, prepared by stewing finely ground seeds (~6 gm) in ascorbic acidifed sweetened water (only) was ingested.
00:20 Subject observed effects that were not previously described on Erowid or other Ayahuasca sites. Subject decided not to continue with this experiment until more was understood and a better mindset was in effect, so MHRB preparation was NOT ingested.
00:45 - 02:45
The following effects were observed:
Nausea (mostly dry heaves, one unsatisfying vomit)
Wakefulness (this was 2:00 a.m.)
OEVs (trails, grainy buzzing, fringes and other presistence of vision distortions).
CEVs (darkish but distinct fractals; rose-windows; 3-D fluoro environments; detailed, realistic, sometimes lucid imagination visualizations of persons and objects known and unknown)
Poor balance, slight staggering
Diminished mental accuity
MAOI/Tyramine interactions that are specified all over the web but subject did NOT observe:
diarrhea, flushing, sweating, pounding chest, dangerous changes in blood pressure,
mild sedation
02:45-ish
Fell asleep and slept normally until usual waking time.
07:00 Baseline
Inference.
Possibly websites that list MAOI/Tyramine interactions hide the somewhat pleasant ones for fear that people will want to do this recreationally and risk severe hypertensive crisis. Strange that there is no mention of nausea.
Conclusions.
Close and diligent study must inform all personal decisions with regard to potentially dangerous experiments! Even if you've "done plenty of shit like this before".
Further study.
Subject is interested to learn if complete dietary preparation avoids these effects.
Take care of yourselves guys.
