I tried Dark some time ago. I wasn't even pissed or stoned but I struggled with it. It was often only after a few episodes or towards the end of seasons 1 and 2 that I had got to grips with what had happened.
BUt then I'd have to start all over again as a further level of inter generational timetravel backwards and forwards was introduced in the next series.. BY the time i got to the start of season 3, it was just like a complete WT actual F is going on now and I gave up in frustartion after 2 episodes of being so confused that I lost my patience as I did not find it enjoyable to be so completely lost and mentally stretched beyond my limits. I may try it again at some point, but I rarely found the series actually enjoyable although I could admire it many ways. The settings, , the storlylines, the cleverness of it all.
It should have been 'up my street' and it was in many ways, but maybe I'm just weird or maybe it was just over my head. I don't enjoy being challenged too much by TV or films. Books too I guess. Music yeah, but not the other mediums so much. Although I have found with certain books that stretch you, if you can perservere you can reach the point where things start to make sense there is a satisfaction at that point. It's probably the same with 'complicated' films and TV.
The subtitles didnt help either tbh. Having to read and process those at the same time as trying to take in the bigger picture made it even harder to follow. The shite English dubbing was not a good option.
I guess all that says more about me than the series, although I guess my reaction was quite normal and ordinary.
