tv: "Man vs Wild"

I prefer Man vs. Wild over survivorman because not only does he teach you basic survival skills, but also because he instructs you how to escape from the most precarious of situations.

I enjoy the show more for its scenery and information about nature than the survival aspect.

I think I prefer Survivorman over Man vs. Wild.

Truth be told, I just can't listen to that damn accent for the duration of the show. And Les Stroud is a lot more 'real' seeming, he's also pretty funny sometimes.

for some reason i enjoy watching the suvivorman show more than man vs wild.

it was obvious from the start (way too much editing) that the bear dude didn't spend time out there actually surviving. he was more so showing you how to survive. i think people got pissed because the premise of the show was supposedly that he was toughing it out the whole time. he is an expert climber and much of what he does wouldn't help the average person. he definitely gets into some bad situations though and shows some good basic skills that could save your life.

its pretty clear that les has actually spent a great deal of time out in the wild. his show is more realistic/ less dramatic and may be why a lot of people seem to enjoy the man vs wild show more. which is understandable. to me the survivorman show just has a better feel to it for what type of show its presenting itself to be, which is a guy by himself in the wild.

i bet you could put them both out there and they'd both fair well, although i think les may have a slight upper hand simply through greater experience.

on a side note, being able to climb shear rock faces could get you outta some bad situations. if you didn't fall.

I've never missed an episode. Our British friends will know this show as titled as "Born Survivor" which is the original name. But the better-looking, smarter, richer american version is man vs wild. Bear Grylls is the man. He also has some very good books. I have 3 so far lol.

They are both really good shows, and I love watching both of them. True, Survivorman is more "real" since he's by himself, but he spends alot of the time avoiding many things that you might find yourself in. Bear actually purposefully gets into some situations just so he can show you how to get out of them. He might be a little less real, but he shows you situations that you might find yourself in that Les will not do.

IMO, watch both, and blend the knowledge from them. That is the best way to learn. You can't use only one source for life and death information. :)

Bear Gryills (umm, made up name?) shows a couple good skills such as heading for a river, what to eat, what to drink and what not to drink, but some of the stuff he does will get the average person killed.

In Moab, he swims under a big deadwood snag in a slot canyon, then scales a verticle wall to get out. STUPID!!! Most people will drown or break their leg in this situation. He acts like it is the only option! Also, he talks about being careful on the lava field, then runs full speed through it jumping over flows. You call that being carful? And although he makes mention of staying on the deserted island indefinitely, he procedes to make some shants and drift off into the middle of the ocean. Good idea if you like heat stroke and death by shark attack...

He should be more clear about what is entertaining and what is actually a good idea.

this shows pretty cool, but I've always wondered what the camera crew does. I can't imagine they have to do the shit he does for food and water and shit like that. I bet you they have bags of cheetos and cans of coke and shit while this guy eats bugs.
survivor man is still better, no crew.

I heard (could be total rumor) that Bear sleeps in a hotel room most nights when he's out "Vs'ing the Wild" .... except when he films at night, of course.. I'll have to see if I can find where this started.

^ that was mentioned on page 2.. Bear has been pretty much owned lately everyone knows he's a fake now apparently even letterman had a running gag dissing him the whole show
