The pretty much perfect past year or so has turned to UGH. Had a fantastic time with starting a family, LOVING being a father :D :D :D We organised 2-3 weeks ago that we will start renovating my house (I have one near coast geelong way). We were then either going to move in to that or most likely, sell it and up/down grade as we saw fit depending on circumstances. We had a 1-2 year goal to do this as we were deciding to move 'now' and live in there for a time period with no rent etc. We had decided to stay here for the 1-2 years as Emma was asked to go back to work 1-2 half days a week.
She was loving being back at work for the first 2 weeks, 1/2 days were good for her. I was taking our 4.5 month old daughter down for a feed during her break. So, we were getting used to the idea, had started baby proofing the lounge/house in anticipation of Cassie crawling. So, we spent a few full days clearing the once packed out lounge of 'stuff' and cabling/wires to all my gadgets, probably got 10-15 consoles/computers/electronic things in our huge 9 piece entertainment unit.
So, we finished clearing up like 1-2 weeks ago and were onto finding 'baby proof' fences so we could fence off the sections we wanted which had a bookshelf and other assorted stuff. We get a phone call last fri from the (actually nice people) REA. The landlord wanted to assess the cracks that had appeared in a couple rooms. OLD OLD house, BEST location I've ever seen that wasn't "millionaires corner". Find out day after from the inspection, we received a "Notice to vacate". The owner's son is moving in, he just got back from overseas 1-2 weeks ago and wants the house. Don't blame him, the BEST location for Melbourne 'city living'.
Now there are builders coming to fix the cracks that have been there for about a year I guess? Nothing 'frightening' but according to the owner, he was going to demolish the house after we moved out in our own time frame so we lived with the cracks etc. All sorts of work is happening here to fix the stuff "we put up with" due to thinking we'd be able to stay for as long as we wanted and stuff. It's put us into tears of anger + frustration. Literally had made plans a couple weeks ago that are taking 1-2 years to come to fruitation and this happens. Also Emma loses the job for good now, since we have to (and also want to due to circumstances) move to Geelong. The place is 'backwardsville' compared to where we are but ALL of our family are down there and we had planned to move to Geelong in the 1-2 years thing due to said family stuff. The house we're currently in is $800/month between Emma and I as we have a housemate that has slept here 1 night in 3-4 months. He is always at his gf's place but pops over to get clothes and whatnot. Looking at rentals, the cheapest houses in our needs (2-3 bedrooms since we're planning for a second child) is anywhere from $400-$800/month dearer for a location that will seem like 30 years back in time...
To say we are pissed is an understatement. Both can't work [I can't at all due to injury, and Emma can't work 'much' due to breast feeding and officially getting carer allowance for helping me out with meals etc since I can't prepare + cook food since my dodgy arm doesn't move high enough to use tools etc. We've probably lost 1-2 years of part time work for Emma and the finances will be up shit creek now. Also to mentioned we have to pack up the house contents, we have til April 20 to pack/find a house + move. It's going to be iffy due to the huge amount of contents we have and the lack of being able to pack 'quickly', looking after our child and my injury makes it SUCKSVILLE. Families can't help, mine are 80 yrs of age (parents) and Emma's work and/or are ill themselves.
That's my vent. Hoping we can find somewhere that won't drain our spare $$$ as in meantime, rest of my savings is going to renovations of house and stuff. Of course disability pension + Emma's "family payment" probably will leave us with $10/wk to spend or something. First time in like 10+ years I am actually worried about finances. ,,|, to the landlord + son for their timing... Murphey's law is a bitch eh?
