Trippy Videos and Movies (Psych Media Subthread)

Koyaanisqatsi

I am very serious, anyone who is about to take a trip, I highly recommend you get this movie. It is fucking incredible.

Agreed - one of the greatest trip films ever. The second part (Powaqqatsi) is also great (although maybe not quite so great - the opening sequence is breathtaking though) although I found the third part (Naqoyqatsi) a big disappointment, personally.

take an eighth of shrooms, and try to comprehend lucas's first film. THX-1138. lmao, been there done that, but it was entertaining indeed

Thanks! I searched and that movie is at a local video store here. I'm going to rent it sometime soon. Damn, I wish I had seen that as a child instead of all the down-talking, soul-atrophying Disney pablum I grew up with - 100 percent serious.

If you easily find it let me know, I have been searching for it for a while and was too lazy to order it off the internet

Videos of yourself from when you were a young child.

Hmnnnnnn, that sounds like a good idea for a group trip with really close friends. Everybody bring their own.

.. and on the old standby: Fantastic Planet

I watched this last night on 3-MeO-PCP (my plan from about one minute into that clip) and it catalyzed an unexpectedly powerful emotional experience. It was at my local video store, however they carry nearly 20,000 different titles, so it isn't really a good way to gauge the extent of the DVD's distribution. When I brought it to the counter the pierced up, dress-wearing, bearded checkout guy with a long black painted nail on his pinky finger commented that it was really good--and stated that, he too, wished he'd seen it as a child. I was tripping at this point so that experience further primed me for a surreal time.

It was re-released in 2006 so the quality is actually really high, and is probably more widely available than we think. There's a story within the story about Adam and Eve that's not as good as the parts with Mark Twain and the kids, but I still recommend it. The film has a lot of meta-fictional themes and comments on the nature of man, nihilsm, spiritual doubt (real issues that we tend to shelter kids from then wonder why they grow into withered husks of people), which some might find confusing. But Twain's lines are extremely well written and playful, so they're enjoyable in their own right even if you don't understand everything (probably because most of the lines are actually quotes from his writings!). The music resonated extremely well with the themes and set pieces, too.

Last time I took some mushrooms I watched Disney's "The Sword in the Stone." Its hand drawn and the dark forest, the royal castle, the fish in the moat, and the magic fight are just outstanding with a 1/16th of mushrooms.

I would also bet that "A Land Before Time" would be really fun to watch too.

In any case I used to watch these movies endlessly when I was younger but they really are different than the animated kids movie's of today - a bit more dark.

psood0nym... yeah after L wrote that post I found the whole video on the internet. It was bad quality so I made myself stop watching it so I can enjoy watching it in good quality tripping out and all. Thanks for the info

Yea we've watched the 2nd and 3rd ones as well while also tripping. The second one was alright, but the 3rd one was way to digital.

We've only watched the other ones one time, you just can't beat the original. So fucking intense, you really feel worn out after watching it.

Is it me or is this just really trippy? (watch the whole thing carefully)

I imagine watching that on LSD would be pretty amusing, cause it's hilarious and great when high.

And I'm not someone who likes to watch anything while on LSD, but I would certainly take a second to watch that since it's short too.

Ward Kimball's animated "Mars and Beyond" is utterly fantastic: http://www.pbase.com/tomrok/image/45614807

David Attenborough's BBC Planet Earth series has amazing HD footage. I highly recommend "shallow seas" and "seasonal forests". Warning: "Caves" has an extended scene of millions of roaches living in a mountain of bat guano.

Lately I've been getting in to early computer animation -- these John Whitney animated shorts were made with analog computers before reall display technology and are insanely beautiful:

That thing on Xbox360 is really sick when youre tripping. The sickest part is that you can control it. Crank some Crystal Method and mess with that and you're in for a serious ride. and while you're at it get down on some Geometry Wars :)

this guy knows what he's talking about :D
